From the nostalgic feel of the melody, we aimed for a high-energy video with a cheap, funny vibe reminiscent of the early days of CG in the Showa and Heisei eras. “NEMURUMA EHON” is an original picture book read-aloud program that began streaming on U-NEXT in October 2024. Featuring a carefully selected lineup of Japanese picture books that we want people to read now, chosen together with Nemu Yumemi, the program invites a variety of readers to bring them to life. To convey the appeal of picture books themselves, the actual books are filmed on camera. By making full use of editing techniques such as preserving the sound of pages being turned and action cuts, we aim to transform a single reading experience into video. At the end of the program, “Nemuruma Anime” by Yosuke Omomo continues to play, gently encouraging a calm state of mind and sleep. By exploring what is uniquely possible with streaming video—such as not showing “the next recommended video” and not fixing a set runtime—we aim to create a program that can be a small help in childcare, one that parents can feel comfortable handing to their children on a tablet or smartphone.

“Hirake Hako” is a new packaging design, along with a group of technologies that form its elements, developed with Keiaki Nakaji and presented at TAKEO PAPER SHOW 2023, “PACKAGING—Function and Laughter.” By treating the wave-like structure of Takeo’s fine-paper corrugated board “Fine Flute” as if it were the teeth of a gear, we developed mechanical element technologies that create a variety of “movements” using paper. Building on this technology, we proposed a package that contains the mechanism within the box itself, offering a new way to open it and a distinctive unboxing experience.

This is an original segment for the new craft program “Ugokosaku,” which is being developed jointly by the video streaming service U-NEXT and designer Masaya Ishikawa. By working together with animations displayed on a tablet or smartphone and placing the craft on the screen, you can create a moving craft—that is, “ugokosaku.” “Ugokosaku” also uses technology and optical illusions to deliver the joy of making things by hand through new crafting and visual experiences unique to streaming.

 Sound: AI-generated On March 27, 2025, the landscape between Tachikawa and Tama Center was recorded with a high-resolution high-speed camera through the window of the Tama Monorail in western Tokyo. Taking this single recording as its source material, this work rewrites the temporal and spatial structure of the image through digital coordinate transformation, thereby transforming the very temporal and spatial experience of 'passing' itself. Rendered through continuously varying timings and parameters, streams of transformed footage play on seamlessly, their paths shifting in response to the viewer's act of 'watching' or 'not watching' the screen. Responding to this non-linear generation, the sound is produced in real time through an AI model. Carrying its contradictions within, the landscape flows endlessly on — from right to left, without cease. In time, this flow quietly works upon the viewer's perception, and the relations between distance, speed, and time gradually come undone.

Silent, Seamless Loop (21 min) A video installation that records waves washing up on and receding from the shore, then applies digital manipulation to transform the temporal and spatial position of every pixel. As a result, the passage of time gradually shifts from one part of the frame to another. This multiplication of time breaks down and estranges the movement of the incoming waves, while at the same time acting on the viewer’s sense of time and perception of space. The work itself has a seamless loop structure with neither beginning nor end, drawing the viewer into a distinctive spacetime.

3-channel video, silent 48:49 seamless loop Presented in Furusawa’s solo exhibition held in January 2024 as a new work in the MidTide series, which he has been developing since 2023. This work is a video installation created on the coast of Minamiboso, Chiba Prefecture, where waves and rocks were captured in the frame and approximately three and a half hours of changes in light and tide were recorded. Using that footage as source material, the artist then carried out data manipulations that reconfigure the temporal dimension of the video. If the footage is arranged as a sequence of still images, it can be represented as a three-dimensional space in which time becomes the depth axis. Video playback is the process of moving one cross-section of this solid form continuously from front to back, but in this work that linear trajectory is intentionally deviated from and allowed to rotate freely. The time treated here is different from the time we ordinarily experience. Unlike normal experience, only the waves, as the subject, retain their form and motion, indicating the passage of time. Just as changes in the tide quietly transform the landscape before one realizes it, this work subtly erodes the viewer’s perception of time and space. This work digitally reinterprets traditional temporal expression in the video medium and explores new possibilities for the visual experience of moving images.

This is a multi-channel video installation work created by filming a seascape of waves for an extended period with a fixed camera, and by applying temporal manipulation to environmental sound data. States in which the progression, stagnation, reversal, compression, and expansion of time and space gradually shift and invert are repeated. The video and audio are processed in the same way, and by matching them to the positions of four speakers arranged in line with the three displays, when you move closer to the screen, the environmental sound corresponding to that part and timing can be heard. In this way, the sound and image of each breaking wave that repeatedly appears are tied to the flow of time at the moment of filming. The work also has a seamless loop structure. There is no major change in the overall time axis in relation to the repeating waves. The sun does not set, and the tide does not rise or fall. Eternally repeating, suspended time and space gradually draw in the viewer’s perception as well.

An original animation set inside a refrigerator late at night. From planning, script, character design, and animation to BGM production, every stage was completed independently. The vulnerabilities that ingredients have as fresh produce—such as “tending to turn black” or “being weak to drying out”—are redefined not merely as traits, but as their “worries” and “personality.” By turning the question of “how to overcome one’s own flaws, or storage-related concerns” into a heartfelt yet comedic drama, the work aims to create a piece that balances practicality and artistry, allowing viewers to learn while enjoying it. The entire video is a stylized full 3DCG work produced in Blender. The BGM, created to synchronize with the timing of the dialogue exchanges and the punchlines, as well as the opening and ending jingles, were also independently produced in Ableton Live.

Kazuki Abe Solo Exhibition: “Hand-Drawn Computation” Venue: Art Space Kimura ASK? 2F Dates: March 3–15, 2025 Under the theme of Hand-Drawn Computation, I developed a system that generates visuals from sound information. The system analyzes the characteristics of sound in real time and uses them as the basis for drawing images. The work actively incorporates elements associated with hand-drawn expression, such as free-flowing curves and subtle transformations of form. By reinterpreting the delicacy of hand-drawing as a sequential drawing algorithm, this project explores computational methods of image-making.

A song that conveys the message, “Don’t compare yourself to others; just move forward at your own pace,” is paired with wind and a flowing collage space to express the “flow of life,” including its instability and detours. Based on the concept that life is a story found after moving through the city and taking in its nature, and that this is what shapes the self, the collage unfolds accordingly. While carrying the uplifting spirit fitting for the theme song of “King’s Brunch,” I hope it can offer comfort by saying, “It’s okay as you are, as long as you keep moving forward little by little.”

Using BONJIN’s signature chaotic collage style, I created a work centered on the theme of a zoetrope. It expresses the way everyday life appears to repeat endlessly, and yet deep within the heart, the hidden light and ideals still remain. By employing an observer-like perspective to portray the structure within the jacket artwork for “Ubugoe,” I also tried to create the impression of looking down upon even that everyday life from above. Even if the treasure within oneself falls apart, one must still keep running forward—I tried to express the melancholy of that feeling and the aesthetics of it itself.
