Profile
qootain is a next-generation video production unit composed of three artists: illustrator and animator Saho Nanjo, cutout animation artist Yukika Kawahara, and photomotography (3DCG) artist Haruka Teramoto.
They explore visual expression across a wide range of techniques, including drawing animation, cutout animation, 3DCG, and motion graphics. Their flexible direction, created by combining the distinct artistic sensibilities of the three members, along with their delicate visuals that retain an analog textural quality, has drawn considerable attention. Based in Kyoto, they continue to expand their activities, working on music videos, corporate commercials, and opening and ending sequences for TV anime.

qootain produced the opening video for KizunaAI Comeback Concert “Home Coming,” a live show held in September 2025 to celebrate KizunaAI’s return to activity. The white grid world at the beginning was created by weaving together two cut sheets of paper and filming them frame by frame using stop-motion. In the latter half, the footage shifts into live action at the cut where KizunaAI herself is shown standing in front of Yoyogi Station, after which it speeds through the journey to the venue in Shinjuku in a single rush of time-lapse imagery.

"Shichigengakuen Student Council" is a self-produced project and unit in which six VTubers come together and work as student council members of "Nanajigen High School." qootain produced the music video for the title track, "Sokubutsuteki Ensemble," from their 1st EP. The video takes on a collage-like structure that combines multiple techniques and dimensions, including hand-drawn 2D animation, silhouette animation, 3DCG, and live-action shooting using miniatures.

A collaboration for the “EneKey Spring Campaign” New spring driving song released! Kazuyoshi Saito’s newly written track unveiled! The new song, created with the hope that “it will be a song people can hum and enjoy while driving,” was released in the web commercial “EneKey x Our Circus” on April 22, 2022. This commercial uses “Our Circus,” a newly written song by singer-songwriter Kazuyoshi Saito. Through animation and CG, the commercial depicts Saito singing “Our Circus” together with people in their cars as they embark on new phases of life, as if he were cheering them on. It is a web commercial filled with the message: “Take life easy,” even as you start your new life.
