We produced the pilot film for “HIDARI,” the first feature to be directed by Whatever CCO Masashi Kawamura, who also created the original story and screenplay, together with Dwarf Studios and TECARAT, a top-tier animation team that supports the global stop-motion industry. “HIDARI” is a stop-motion period drama that boldly reimagines the story of the legendary Edo-period sculptor Jingoro Hidari, a figure with many surviving works and anecdotes but whose actual existence remains uncertain, weaving it together with historical facts from the Edo period. It is depicted using puppets carved from wood, just like the works of Jingoro Hidari himself. As with the many legends surrounding Hidari, the film brings “wooden dolls to life” through frame-by-frame animation. Please take a look at this unprecedented visual experience, which daringly blends the dynamic action of Japanimation with the analog world of stop-motion.

A romantic comedy film adaptation of the hit romance manga “Loving Yamada at Lv999,” which was serialized on the manga app GANMA! and was also adapted into a TV anime in 2023. Akane Kinoshita, a college student who has just been dumped by her boyfriend, meets Akito Yamada, a coolly curt high school pro gamer, through the online game Forest Of Savior. Though he is usually unfriendly, Akane gradually finds herself drawn to Yamada, who occasionally shows an unconscious kindness. However, despite having no interest in romance, Yamada is wildly popular with everyone around him, making him a formidable “boss” of the highest difficulty to攻略 as a love interest. Ryuto Sakuma of “Sorry About My Younger Brothers” stars as Yamada, while Mizuki Yamashita of “The Lies of the Eleven Students” plays Akane. They are joined by singer-songwriter NOA, Rui Tsukishima from the TV drama “When Takagi-san Teases,” the comedy duo Kuukikai-Dan’s Mogra Suzuki, and Mahiru Koda from “Riding in a Summer Film.” Directed by Yuka Yasukawa of “My Broken Mariko,” with the screenplay written by Anna Kawahara of “Character.”

An original work directed, based on, and written by Jyoji Iida of “NIGHT HEAD,” this is a theatrical preview version of the TV drama “Kamisama no Saikoro,” which began airing on October 9, 2024. It depicts five video streamers who are caught up in a life-or-death escape game. Akagi, a music streamer, is growing impatient as his number of channel subscribers fails to increase. At that moment, he hears from Shiraishi, a former colleague who is now a hugely popular cooking streamer, about a “doll that grants wishes.” It is a magical doll handed down among a small ethnic group in Africa, and if a ritual is performed using the doll, any wish can be granted, though an equivalent price is demanded in return. In order to perform the ritual, Akagi reaches out to Shiraishi as well as Kurotani, Aoyama, and Midorikawa, with whom he once worked as the streamer group “Five Colors,” and the group reunites...。 Masanari Wada, who is active across film, stage, musicals, and more, plays the protagonist Akagi. Shunta Sono of the dance-vocal unit “M!LK” plays Shiraishi; Yo Maejima of “Kamen Rider Amazons Season 2” plays Kurotani; Keito Sakurai, known for stage productions such as “Touken Ranbu” and “World Trigger,” plays Aoyama; and Raiga Terasaka of “Ultraman Trigger” plays Midorikawa. In addition, Yuka Hyoudo, Tetsu Watanabe, and others appear, and the popular three-member idol group “Task have fun” makes an appearance as themselves.

A live-action romantic comedy adaptation of the popular comic by Hatsuharu, which has been serialized in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Friend since 2018 and was turned into a TV anime in 2023, starring Riko Fukumoto from My Love That Won’t Reach and the SixTONES member Jesse. Isaku Senagaki lost both her parents at a young age and was raised by her grandfather, the head of the Senagaki family, a yakuza clan. Traumatized by never having been able to make friends because she is the granddaughter of a gangster family, she decides to hide her background in high school and live an ordinary life of love and youth. However, Keiya Utou, the young heir of the Senagaki family and Isaku’s caretaker, is so overprotective that he falsifies his age to enroll secretly at the same high school, declaring that he will act as her “guard dog” and bodyguard. Though Isaku is bewildered by him, she struggles to protect the school life she has longed for... Mikio Tananuki, the grandson of the head of the Tananuki family, a sibling clan allied with the Senagaki family, and who transfers to the same high school as Isaku and Keiya, is played by Kaito Sakurai from the live-action adaptation of Oshi no Ko. Keiichi Kobayashi, director of We Made a Beautiful Bouquet, helms the film, with Yosuke Masaike of Anime Supremacy! writing the screenplay.

Fujiyoshi Natsurin of the idol group Sakurazaka46 stars in her first leading film role in this social entertainment drama set in a high school newspaper club, depicting a group of students who expose the darkness of adults from the margins of society. Keiichi Kobayashi, director of Momoiro Sorao and Koi wa Hikari, is at the helm. Yui Tokoro, a first-year high school student and literature enthusiast, enrolls in the prestigious Sakuraba Gakuen High School, where her beloved young author, Konoha Midorimachi, is said to be attending, only to learn that Konoha is an unknown, mysterious figure. Asked by the president of the literature club, which she had hoped to join, to uncover Konoha’s true identity as a condition for membership, Yui decides to infiltrate the newspaper club, which is said to have the information. Though she is constantly tossed about by the club’s eccentric members, Yui gradually becomes fascinated by the appeal of newspapers and the work of reporters as she serves as a rookie newspaper club journalist. Before long, the hidden darkness within the school begins to come to light, forcing Yui to make a decision. Fujiyoshi plays the protagonist, Yui Tokoro, nicknamed Torokko, while up-and-coming young actors such as Akari Takaishi, Rinka Kumada, and Tomo Nakai co-star as members of the newspaper club and literature club. Shotaro Miyagawa, the original creator who was enrolled in the Film Department of Nihon University College of Art, turned an idea he came up with in high school into an original film proposal for a university class assignment, and it caught the attention of Takatomo Naoi, known as a producer behind projects such as Alps Stand no Hashi no Hō, who was then a part-time lecturer at the same faculty, leading to the film’s realization. Based on Miyagawa’s original concept, the screenplay was written by Daisuke Ohno, known for Tsujiura Renbo and Sayonara Elymantos.

The director spent a week in Kyiv himself. He interviewed the people he met, filmed the school he visited, the site where missiles had fallen, and other locations, and created the film Sunflowers Under Siege.

I can’t know what the future holds, so for now, let’s just decide that something good will happen. In 2020, when behavior was restricted by the COVID-19 pandemic, it became difficult even to gather with friends, and I found myself growing used to a reality in which the things I wanted to do would not come true. Those were painful days, filled with anger that had nowhere to go. Yet because “everyone in the world” was in the same situation, the pace of society naturally slowed, and while spending quiet time confronting myself and my family, I began to think about “what has been” and “what is to come.” Perhaps that slow, strolling kind of time was itself something “good.” This film captures one night in 2020, when the Leonid meteor shower fell, as experienced by people of different generations and professions. In the unassuming scenes of everyday life, both difficult moments and good moments are captured. The romantic phenomenon layered over them becomes light, and seeing the protagonists shoulder to shoulder, it is impossible not to hope that “the future will surely bring good things.” It has become a new work that records the “present day” we are living through with perseverance, without forgetting hope. The director is Akihiro Toda, known for his skill in directing young actors and ensemble dramas, including the film Name, based on an original story by Naoki Prize-winning author Shusuke Michio, 13 Moon Girls, and We Will Wake to the Same Morning. The screenplay is by Gaku Kawasaki, who was chosen to co-write with Koki Mitani for the drama Someone’s Watching starring Shingo Katori. The young actors who serve as the protagonists of the ensemble include Kaho Maehara, who has appeared in a series of notable works such as Ah, Wilderness by director Yoshiyuki Kishi and A Girl with a Lehman’s Scale by Yujiro Harumoto; and Karen Otomo, who continues to appear in films by distinguished directors including The Bride of Rip Van Winkle by director Shunji Iwai and Let Me Eat Your Pancreas by director Sho Tsukikawa. Other cast members include Ayumu Nakajima, Yurina Yanagi, Ryo Shinoda, Megane, Soma Sanjoh, Yuuka Sasaki, Hidenobu Abera, and Tsutomu Takahashi, among many others ranging from trusted young talents to veterans. Actors with experiences closely tied to their characters delivered remarkably authentic, breathing performances.

A heartwarming comedy film adaptation of the stage play “Not beer but low-molt beer,” performed by the theater troupe Orega United in 2013. It follows the twist-filled schemes of four people who gather at the wake of a woman with dementia and end up battling over her fortune. Sameshima, a good-natured con artist, and his underling Oshikiri secure a promise from the elderly Mrs. Taki Harue, who has been living off the inheritance of her wealthy husband, to buy her solid-gold dentures. But when they visit her home on the appointed day, they find Harue’s wake being held there. With Harue’s granddaughter Saki also present, attorney Tsuji opens the will and discovers that it states, “The person who remains until the end on the night of the wake shall inherit the fortune.” By sheer chance, the four who gain inheritance rights launch into a single night of deception. Tamakki Yuki, active mainly in 2.5-dimensional stage productions, stars as Sameshima. He is joined by Soma Satoru from the tokusatsu drama “Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger,” Nagase Miru from “Yoru no Manimani,” and Ito Keitoku from “Kono Machi to Watashi.” Tsumuji Sado, who wrote and directed the stage version, handled the screenplay, and director Nakagawa Hirotaka, making his feature-length debut with this film, took the helm.

Set in Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture, this feature-length film was produced by casting its actors through an acting workshop. Ami Tomite, known for "The Naked Director 2" and the drama "Crows Blood," also appears in the film. Shohei Uemura (Vo) of THREE1989, who wrote the theme song for the film, also takes on acting for the first time.

A Ukrainian animated film depicting an underachieving actor and a princess who fall in love despite their different social standings as they take on an evil sorcerer. Ruslan, a young actor who dreams of becoming a knight, has a fateful encounter with Mira, a princess who has run away from the royal palace in search of freedom, and falls in love with her. But the evil sorcerer Chernomor abducts Mira right before Ruslan’s eyes and turns the power of her love into his own magic. To rescue the woman he loves, Ruslan sets out on a journey to prove that true love is stronger than magic. In the Japanese dubbed version, Hiromu Takatsuka of the global boy group INI makes his voice acting debut as the protagonist Ruslan, while voice actress Rie Takahashi, known for TV anime such as Oshi no Ko, voices Princess Mira. The animation was produced by Animagrad, a leading animation studio in Eastern Europe.

A human suspense drama set in a single location, depicting how the truth behind a woman’s death is uncovered during a memorial gathering held on the 49th day after her suicide. Madoka Takahashi gathers people who were close to her late best friend Yuko Kawai at the share house where Yuko had lived, and holds a memorial service for her on the 49th day after her suicide. Visitors to the share house include Yuko’s coworkers Akiko Matsui and Kaori Niioka, her roommates Sunny and Yuri, and her ex-boyfriend Yasushi Yokoyama, among other eccentric characters. The memorial begins in a solemn mood, but Madoka has a hidden purpose. Along with stories about Yuko, she gradually steers the conversation toward why Yuko was driven to take her own life. Before long, Pancho, who comes to deliver pizza, and Hikoto Shinozuka, Akiko’s ex-boyfriend, are also drawn into the gathering, and astonishing connections and facts slowly come to light. Nana Asakawa from the “Kaguya-sama: Love Is War” series plays the lead role of Madoka, alongside Momoko Tanabe, Nao Hoshino, Ami Tomite, Gaku Sano, Riho Takada, and Ryuuji Harada. Yuuji Nakamae, who directed Tida: I Want to Walk Under the Sun Someday, served as both director and screenwriter.
