STORY: A YouTuber visits an abandoned building to film a video and encounters a geisha ghost covered in black. Gradually, his body loses its freedom, and he sinks into delusions; before he knows it, he has fallen under the geisha ghost’s spell. This is an independently produced work made because I wanted to create a horror piece. However, it ended up becoming a comedic one after all. ٩( ᐛ )و I didn’t have any particular obsession with it, but I created it mostly on instinct.

At the time, lyric videos were starting to get popular, and I wanted to make a music video with a stronger focus on text design, so I began developing the concept with the goal of creating something like an upgraded version of a lyric video. I thought lyric videos were effective for keeping people watching until the end, but I also felt that if we could make the experience feel a little deeper, people might want to watch it again and again, so I aimed to convert the lyrics into English with new interpretations included and give them more expression. Since many of the lyrics were abstract, I think the somewhat suggestive English translation worked pretty well.

The lyrics were so good that I aimed to create an MV like a sound novel. Although it didn’t rain during filming, the wind was so strong that we weren’t able to shoot as planned. For the parts we couldn’t film, I later made full use of my smartphone and digital camera and gathered as much material as possible, such as flowers and skies I found in everyday life, using them to fill in the gaps between scenes in the work.

Since there wasn’t much room in the shooting and editing conditions, I aimed for “Simple is best.” When I think of “Simple is best,” I think of the “dance cover” videos posted on Niconico and YouTube, so I used the so-called “dance cover” style as a motif and added various forms of expression to it, which resulted in this. As for the points I focused on, it was the lighting effects of the live switching.

First, since this group’s feelings were condensed into the lyrics, I aimed for an expression in which the lyrics would serve as the core of the whole piece. Because I wanted to add more depth to the thoughts and story embedded in the lyrics, I translated the lyrics into concise, summarized English and tried to give the meaning a new angle. Since there is a work that preceded this one, the song “3WD,” I also paid attention to the changes and evolution from that earlier piece.
