This video is a making-of documentary that follows the journey of the anime Dungeon & Television from last spring to early this summer. But it does not stop there; it also includes location shooting on the streets and interviews with people surrounding the work, in an attempt to question the significance of creating a work about television in the present day using tools such as Clip Studio Paint and PCs, or even celluloid and film. What do you think about fantasy/about television/about anime? How would you answer, standing in front of a microphone?

The serialized anime adaptation of “Dungeon & Television” finally begins. ◎Episode 1: “We Are Television” Synopsis◎ Marda, a young wizard, narrowly escapes from a monster and meets a strange party led by the elf Shi. They claim to be a dungeon location crew from the Royal Broadcasting Guild (OHG), but... /The opening sequence uses cels and 16mm film. It was shot on a homemade filming stand, then film-scanned after development and digitally edited.

Once upon a time, when television itself was still an adventure-- ----With the invention of television, any kind of visual content could be broadcast, yet this was still an age when swords and magic had not been abandoned. At last, the eye of the camera turns toward the darkness of the dungeon, seen only by adventurers until now. Their goal is a live broadcast of dungeon conquest. While battling countless monsters that keep spawning and a series of equipment troubles, the adventurers with cameras press onward. What could possibly await them ahead? ◎　◎　◎ This is a self-produced pilot film. We are currently preparing for the next stage.

Using as many varied techniques as possible, including 8mm film, puppet animation, and 3DCG, I created this work while channeling its musical ideas into the atmosphere of interwar Europe. I designed the music video with the interpretation that it is about dreams, and about how one faces and keeps one’s distance from the people and world around them.

In the winter of 1962, an unprecedentedly sophisticated counterfeit bill was discovered in Japan. The counterfeit 1,000-yen notes were used through cunning methods, and the case ultimately came to a close without a single suspect being arrested. One of the counterfeit bills that was found was reportedly placed in a time capsule alongside genuine bills during the Osaka Expo. Reinterpreting the theme of this song, “Itsuwari,” which speaks of facing someone while deceiving and disguising oneself, as the production of counterfeit money, we created this music video. If something is carried through to the end, can even a fake stand alongside the real?

Based primarily on hand-drawn 2D animation, the work also uses a variety of media, including 3DCG created with Blender, three-dimensional models, 8mm film, and thermal paper, aiming for a radical visual expression that matches the song’s energetic atmosphere. In terms of content, it looks back on the journey of VTuber Tenkai Tsukasa to date, while incorporating motifs such as mahjong and themes like the death and rebirth of VTubers.

We created this work using a variety of approaches, including stop-motion with film photography, photogrammetry, old digital cameras, aerial footage shot with a kite, and 360 cameras. Although it includes many cinematic approaches, we kept the experimental feel subdued and structured it so that the actors’ performances remain at the center.

KUROMI – OHIRUNE DAY DREAM

Inspired by ramko’s song, I wanted to express in this video the feeling that “if you stay true to yourself and remain as you are, you can suddenly become aware of emotions that are easy to overlook in everyday life,” and that was the concept behind this production. In the MV, Kuromi-chan’s inner conflict is portrayed with a look that drifts between dream and reality. I hope viewers can enjoy the feeling of peeking a little into Kuromi-chan’s heart through the visuals.
