Joined WOW in 2009 as a Visual Art Director. Directs and designs commercials, music videos, exhibition films, and more. His original works, “DIFFUSION,” “CYCLE,” and “MAKIN' MOVES,” were all selected as Vimeo Staff Picks, drawing attention from both Japan and overseas for their highly addictive visual worlds. In recent years, he has expanded his work internationally, participating in global campaigns for Nike, Dropbox, Coca-Cola, Adobe, and others.

Kouhei Nakama (WOW) once again collaborated with director Hibiki Yoshizaki of Studio Khara to produce the opening sequence for Season 2 of the anime Kaiju No. 8, following their work on the first season. The sequence visually expresses the inner turmoil and emotional conflict of Kafka Hibino / Kaiju No. 8, caught between his human and monster selves. The opening theme, “You Can’t Run From Yourself,” was written specifically for the series by AURORA, the renowned singer from Norway. Kaiju No. 8 Official Website https://kaiju-no8.net/en/

Created from discussions with Studio Colorido director Kyo Yoshizaki, this video visualizes the question, “Where do kaiju come from, and what is their purpose?” Set to “Abyss” performed by YUNGBLUD, it abstractly depicts, in a single continuous shot, the process by which cells born in the deep sea grow and divide before emerging on land as a kaiju, while interweaving the characters’ emotions. Elements, kept as simple as possible. Behavior, made as natural as possible, something that never gets old. With “10¹² TERRA,” we explored the interplay of light and shadow created by the rotation of the outer and inner shades of a white, geometric form. The source of motion is nothing but convection caused by the heat of an incandescent bulb. Without using any motorized power, we pursued a natural, beautiful, gently flowing movement of light. “LUX” — What we set out to design was not a fixture called lighting, but “the behavior of light” itself. It softly shapes the space with drifting light and shadow. A beautiful, conceptual light, here.

About the Work Responsible for directing and producing the 2019 WINTER concept movie for LOVE TIGER COLLECTION, Tiger Corporation’s concept fashion brand. By animating 3D-scanned models, the season theme, “GAME,” was expressed in a pop style. As a new endeavor, this work also includes a cut produced using volumetric technology in collaboration with Sony’s R&D Center. A 15-second TV commercial version was also produced and broadcast.
