I expressed the inseparable connection with the world of the soul and the inspiration that links them. The spiritual world of the soul and inspiration, the unreal and the invisible, are portrayed in black and white to emphasize that they are inseparable, or that they exist beside people and life and are essential. This keyword, “the invisible parts,” comes from the artist’s own sense of discomfort with the accelerating, defined notion of what is normal and with trends. In truth, the world is driven by the parts that are hardly shown in the media. Above all, I wanted to depict the universal truth that the invisible parts of the heart and soul and the movements of reality are inseparable, and I created the story of a girl who sees in the world of the soul the inspiration that there is no future in a world without a heart.

From the song, I felt a summer-ambience kind of vibe and envisioned something ambient and electronic, so I wanted to make the visuals feel cool and refreshing. Although the meaning of the scenes themselves is abstract, I aligned the visuals with the beat and repeated the processes of editing and creating material to match the worldview of the lyrics, aiming for something that felt cohesively connected overall. For the graphic production and compositing (mainly in Blender, with a little final work in AE as well), I kept searching for something that matched the worldview and was pleasant to watch. During the material creation stage, I tried many different things with compositing in Blender, experimenting through trial and error, and connected various nodes together so that, even within abstraction, it would become something attractive and evocative. I did a lot of experimenting.

“Searching for a place where the soul can rest, looking for the place where one’s own soul can shine” A delicate young man is crushed by the ordinary everyday world. Born as a human being, he finds it painful to exist: a weak, gentle soul that would be blown away if the wind were to blow over it is led by nature and comes to long to dance through the universe. The drawings and animation were created in Photoshop. The compositing was done using After Effects.

Music video for “PULSE091,” a single by the alternative band O'D SECT. A story of love’s radio waves, swimming through the universe for hundreds of millions of light-years. From the song’s sense of floating through space, and its nostalgic minimal beat rhythms and tones, we created the video with a Japanese retro-future image. We worked closely with the members to develop and refine the story, and we made it with the hope that the small details and hidden touches throughout would help it, along with the song, become something people will love.
