“Drifting in a Dream” is a video work that portrays the comfort and light of drifting through a dream. It was created with the aim of freeing the viewer’s mind and offering a moment to be enveloped in a quiet, beautiful dream world. By surrendering to the soft light and sound, I hope it brings back a sense of pure happiness that may have been forgotten. For the production, I used Blender, the 3DCG software I have relied on for many years. I chose Cycles for rendering and devoted meticulous attention to expressing the texture of light and atmosphere. In particular, for the lighting, I repeatedly refined the settings, making full use of softly diffused light and volumetric effects so that viewers could feel a sense of calm. For the music, I commissioned cokiyu, an artist known for creating many fantastical, dreamy pieces and for contributing music to the film Confessions, directed by Tetsuya Nakashima. She delicately expressed the concept of “comfort and light in a dream,” and the visuals and music come together to create an ethereal experience.

2025 Asia Digital Art Award FUKUOKA Award Winner Mitaka no Mori Animation Festa 2026, 24th Indies Animation Festa Award Winner "The Seed of Stars" One day, these words casually spoken by my daughter gently planted a seed within me. Drawn in by their tenderness and a poetic afterglow, I began to imagine stars descending into a quiet forest, and the landscapes where small creatures live. The story begins with stars drifting softly down from the night sky into the forest. There, the stars become tiny seeds on the ground, eventually sprouting and blooming into “star flowers.” The creatures living in the forest quietly keep them company, making music and watching over the flowers. I wanted to portray a serene, warm world filled with light, sound, and the slow flow of air in the night forest. For the visual production, I used Blender, which I have been using for many years. I expressed the natural elements I love—forests, stars, flowers, and small living creatures—in a simple, unadorned style, and by focusing on light, shadow, and texture, I created a landscape that seems to drift between reality and imagination. Rather than aligning the music and visuals perfectly, I aimed for a relationship in which they gently resonate with one another while remaining quietly close. The music was composed by cokiyu, a musician with whom I have long collaborated, and who has also provided music for the film Confessions (directed by Tetsuya Nakashima). In this work, her transparent vocals gently layer over delicate piano melodies suited to a forest at night. The lyrics carry the theme of this story, and each word resonates softly, as if speaking directly to the listener. The presence of the voice subtly deepens the visual atmosphere, conveying the depth of the imagery, time, and the world of "The Seed of Stars" more richly. I would be delighted if "The Seed of Stars" could quietly take root in the hearts of viewers as well, allowing free imagination and feeling to gently spread from there. This work was selected as an award-winning entry at the 2025 Asia Digital Art Award FUKUOKA and the Mitaka no Mori Animation Festa 2026, 24th Indies Animation Festa.

This video work depicts a surreal world based on the theme of “dreamscapes.” One of the characteristics of dreams is that scenes suddenly change. Strange scenes just before waking, memories connected in fragments—I visualized the experience of dreams I have had so far as a video. The tool used was Blender, which I have been using and loving for many years. Taking advantage of the free viewpoints unique to 3D animation, I created a world that exists somewhere between reality and fantasy. The music for this work is an original composition by musician no.9, who provided a song for the opening ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games. The sound design, synchronized with the visuals, further enhances the sense of floating and uncertainty that dreams possess. Please enjoy this new dream experience, where sight and sound intersect.

This work is a magical, heartwarming animation centered on the connection between music and life. It portrays the power of sound and the miracle of life born from harmony with nature. The film was created using Blender and expressed through a charming low-poly visual style. By adopting a simple yet warm design, we aimed to create an atmosphere that gently envelops viewers in the world of the story. We also paid close attention to the subtle direction of light and movement, carefully depicting the forest awakening each time the music resonates. The music is an original composition written by cokiyu, a musician known for creating many fantastical pieces and for contributing music to the film Kokuhaku, starring Takako Matsu. The delicate, dreamlike melodies breathe life into the visuals and add deeper color to the story. Please enjoy this gentle tale of magic, where a small sound can change the world.

The joy of playing with miniature cars as a child. We brought that sense of immersion and excitement to the screen by fusing the warmth of handcraft with modern technology. The art direction was built by the director and production team using reclaimed materials. The character and background illustrations were also developed through repeated trial and error, down to the paper quality, printing, and finishing methods, in pursuit of textures that would suit the world of the film. Working with a small crew, we brought AI in as a “partner” for processes beyond our capacity. Rather than using the generated output as-is, we layered it with human touch, warmth, and texture, carefully bringing out the contours of each material. Taking into account the product’s size and structural constraints, we carried out extensive testing in the planning of the direction, aiming to create a cohesive on-set environment.

I captured as a documentary on film the events from the artist (mejifunny)’s college days. The death of a friend and a breakup with his girlfriend. I infused the direction with a sense of transience, using chaotic emotions as the theme. Through many discussions with the artist, I created this work while also processing my own past memories and experiences. ~The feelings I put into it~ My girlfriend, whom I broke up with three years ago. The days I spent with her in my student years—faint, painful, childish, yet somehow happy. I’m sure I will forget these feelings someday. But there is still a nostalgic, sad feeling somewhere inside me. During the preparation period for this work, I thought about those things as I made it. My first MV work, created in my 10th month since I started filming.

I worked on the motion graphics for "HILLS SAKURA JOURNEY," a cherry blossom festival event held across five Hills locations, including Roppongi Hills, Azabudai Hills, and Toranomon Hills, hosted by Mori Building Co., Ltd. — one of Japan’s leading urban development companies. The video was composed with the light, graceful movement of cherry blossom petals and vivid, eye-catching transitions. As an advertising video for the event campaign, it was shown on signage inside the Hills facilities, on the event website, and on social media.

When I first heard this song, I felt my emotions scatter in every direction, as if confusion and calm were spreading through my chest at the same time. A faint hope within sorrow. A small flame flickering without fading, deep inside a frozen body. This work began by gently gathering those contradictory feelings, the fact that they simply “exist,” as a visual expression. This music video depicts an emotional journey that begins with a parting. How a heart that has experienced loss wavers, and eventually moves toward acceptance. That inner transformation is carefully woven together through color design, lighting, framing, and camera movement synchronized to the rhythm. A room submerged in water, an empty deep sea, a motorcycle racing through the city at night— all of it symbolizes the protagonist’s mental state and emerges as an inner landscape. For the lighting, rather than direct light, I deliberately used reflections and silhouettes to leave room for ambiguity instead of clear-cut “answers.” The camera work was designed to visualize the heart’s fluctuations, shifting like waves from stillness to motion, from tight to wide. As for the structure, I prioritized the flow of emotion over a conventional storyline, so that viewers could focus on simply “feeling” the piece. Scattered memories and thoughts overlap into a single mental landscape, and before long, quietly, they become a tear. That pool of water may perhaps be an ocean made of one’s own tears. I would be happy if this video could gently resonate somewhere with the “deep sea” that exists within each viewer.

This video work is an attempt to speak, through the medium of film, to the ambiguity and beauty held within the word “desire.” Aisho Nakajima’s GANGBANG is not mere provocation, but an anthem to the moments where human instinct and intimacy intersect, and I sought to depict it as a “visual orchestra.” The stage is a sealed, sensual room where shadow and light intertwine. There, the boundaries of gender and identity dissolve, and kisses and embraces emerge as a single fluid language. As the 360-degree rotating camera slowly traverses the space, the audience is led not into the feeling of “peeking” into this world, but into the sensation of “being there together.” What matters is not the correctness of the gaze, but the honesty of sensation. The extensive use of close-ups brings into focus the air drifting between bodies and the fragility that resides in exchanged glances. The lighting is pared down to the extreme, quietly illuminating the contours of the skin and the rhythm of breath. The shadows themselves become the blank space of desire. GANGBANG is a visual poem that affirms someone’s sexual being as sensual beauty. It is political, and at the same time deeply personal. By hovering on the knife-edge between “showing” and “making one feel,” this work once again asks what it means for us to “connect.”

This video work is a poetic piece that portrays the two extremes of “pain” and “brilliance” swirling within a teenager’s heart. Its non-linear, fragmented narrative moves back and forth between reality and memory, as if wandering through the fault lines of recollection, depicting the lingering aftereffects of the protagonist Airu’s heartbreak and the faint light that remains within it. Current loneliness and the tenderness of the past. Shouts and silence, warmth and collapse. All of it layers itself within the rhythm of the visuals, creating a loop of emotion. The camera shakes in hand-held motion, following and capturing emotional turbulence in a physical way. The lighting uses cold blue and gray tones for the present, as if separating existence from memory, while the flashbacks are rendered in warm, slightly overexposed light. Neon glow, like sparks of emotion, occasionally washes over the frame. In the editing, the theme of “a chain of emotions that feels as if it might break, yet never quite does” is expressed through scattered match cuts, dissolves, and glitch-like moments, leaving room in the viewer’s heart. The film repeats rises and falls like a heartbeat, creating an emotional rhythm. This work is a visual poem that seeks to portray all the pain and love hidden behind a single word: “Y.O.U.” It is a visual monologue woven for someone’s emotions that have not yet become words, about self-destruction and rebirth, and how to love and how to lose. Straightforward, awkward, and therefore beautiful — it is a work that burns into image the essence of “teenage.”

This video depicts “the quiet afterglow left behind after parting.” Two people who will never cross paths again. Yet only the threads of emotion remain, thinly and unmistakably, stretching across space. The man and woman never appear in the same frame; each simply stands still within their own world. A man smoking in a room, a woman sitting inside a car wrapped in rain. Time does not move, and there are no words, only emotion drifting there. At the core of this work is “repetition.” The phrase “just because,” repeated again and again in the lyrics. In response, the visuals also repeatedly show the same frames and actions. Exhaling smoke, gazing at the rain, a hand tapping the steering wheel. All of these are mental landscapes of characters trapped within an emotional “loop.” In the editing, by repeating the same moments, the work creates a sensation as if time were melting away. Even within the repetition, subtle changes—a slight shift in light, the timing of a breath, the tremble of a gaze—are woven in, quietly conveying to the viewer that emotion is not completely still. The lighting and camera work are also closely linked to the poetic tempo. Soft, diffused light, streetlights reflected in raindrops, shadows wavering in cigarette smoke. Everything expresses “things that are unclear, yet undeniably there.” Liquid is a visual poem that shines a light on the “ambiguity” of emotion and the things that cannot be put into words. Bittersweetness and release, stillness and suffocation—an audiovisual experience where all of these coexist, like being inside a dream. We aimed for an afterglow that gently touches the depths of the viewer’s memories and emotions.
