Music video for “Color Passion,” the May 2025 learning song from NHK E-Tele’s “The Wakey Show.” This song is performed by a character named “Marigool,” who is well versed in art, with the theme of “a song that teaches you how to mix paint colors.” Using a puppetry technique known in Japan as “face-revealing puppet manipulation,” which is still relatively unfamiliar there, the production was directed with a focus on making both the puppets and the human performers look wonderful. An image-based video work centered on Atami and the surrounding areas, the setting of the TV anime Clean Freak! Aoyama-kun, composed from live-action footage. Over three days of filming in Atami, time-lapse shots and snapshots were meticulously gathered from early morning until sunset. By carefully editing and compositing this vast collection of cuts built around the keyword “beautiful” in accordance with the rhythm and flow of emotion, the work creates a visual experience in which everyday scenery gradually takes on color and seems to synchronize with one’s inner feelings.

A music video created based on a song inspired by photographer Munehide Ida’s photo book “EXPRESSWAY.” In this work, depth maps were generated from Munehide Ida’s photographs to give them three-dimensional movement, challenging the idea of “photographs coming to life once again.” While actively embracing the characteristics of the source material, including blur and noise, the piece intricately synchronizes them with piano sounds evoking a camera shutter and fast-paced developments. Through a unique approach, it reconstructs the tension and sense of speed inherent in the “moment” captured in photographs taken while driving on the Shuto Expressway at 100 km/h.

Please exercise caution when viewing, and if you feel any discomfort, stop watching immediately. -- This is a motion graphics MV created under the concept of “making an MV that tricks the viewer for an instant.” Starting from the now-familiar composition often seen in recent vocaloid song MVs—an illustration placed against a single-color background—the moment the drop begins, the illustrated Teto Kasane opens her eyes and the background starts moving violently as well, drawing the viewer into the music through the sudden shift in tone. To create visuals that could stand up to a song driven by passionate feelings riding on a powerful beat, we incorporated plenty of data-like grime such as noise and moshing, and built the piece around motion graphics that still maintain a pleasing visual appearance.

When I heard the band’s image for the piece, I decided to build it from the feelings I had in my own youth. I directed it with the intention of turning those everyday moments from back then, and the emotions that strangely remain when you look back on them, into the visuals as they are. The apples that appear in the work are a visual expression of memories of youth. For me, youth is strongly connected to cinema as well, so I’ve also included a few slightly film-like scenes and ways of showing them here and there. By using an old compact digital camera and having the cast actually take some of the shots themselves, I think I was able to create a texture that feels close to the perspective and memories of the people who were there.

Description: At some point in time, humanity vanished from Earth in an instant. Countless pieces of space debris are scattered across Earth’s orbit. Among that debris, an optical disc happens to slip into a player, and the track begins to play. The thoughts left within the music take on the physical phenomenon of vibration and rain down upon the Earth. Parabolic antennas on the ground listen to the vibrations, and radio towers transmit radio waves of their own accord. Signage in an abandoned city displays the performer’s image, obscured by noise, while a three-dimensional hologram is projected onto a sandy beach. Waves gently brush against feet, and a semi-transparent body traces out the choreography. A roadside cathode-ray tube set bears a face mottled with static, hallucinating seven figures who should not be there. When the track ends, the player ejects the optical disc. The Earth glows, and the debris continues to circle in orbit.

Commentary: In representing Mr. Nagase, who exists across the dimensions of media, what I had in mind was to show the moment of crossing between dimensions. The passage back and forth between dimensions gradually accelerates, until eventually it crosses dimensions frame by frame. So rapid that the temporal arrangement can be mistaken for spatial contact, and with a movement of flicker that is too fast to stop and yet seems to stand still, the translucent body placed within it can touch you on the retina, between frame and frame. The haze that only becomes visible through motion was also fitting for a melody that feels as if carved out of a raging current—or perhaps written automatically—gentle / eerie / light. Listen to the blur, like a lump of light, with your eyes and ears.

A drama centered on the encounter between a woman who once gave up her child and a young girl who brought life into the world through surrogacy, portraying a relationship that cannot be reduced to blood ties or systems. Through night streets and the repetitive landscapes of everyday life, it carefully traces the shifts in the time and distance the two share, bringing to light the ambiguity inherent in the concepts of “motherhood” and “family.” This work looks at the possibility of people who carry both choice and loss still continuing to live on. Starring: Mami Shibuya, Yume Takamura. Screenplay: Kisa Ito. Responsible for planning, direction, and editing.

A short film based on Jun’ichiro Tanizaki’s novel *The Makioka Sisters*, depicting an aspect of Hanshin modernism. It portrays the romance between Taeko, the free-spirited fourth daughter of the Makioka family, and Miyoshi, a bartender, as Taeko “Koisan” falls in love freely and recklessly. The date scenes were filmed at locations such as Isoshian (Tanizaki Jun’ichiro’s former residence) and Hotel Hanakomichi, which also appears in the original work, depicting a natural time-slip into Kobe and Arima Onsen.

In this world, there is no clear answer, nor words that define the meaning of life. Even so, by thinking of someone, people can continue to remain faintly connected to the world. KOO-KI’s Toichi Shirakawa directed and produced this commercial for UHA Gummy Supplement. The music is an arranged recording of Kocchi no Kento’s hit song “Hai Yorokonde,” created specifically for this commercial. The illustrations are newly drawn by Oshushi Muromuki. To achieve a subliminal effect, the production was designed so that the product package appears in every cut. To present it without being intrusive, the team added touches such as well-timed coordination with the music, a pleasing sense of progression, and small playful elements (the gummy pieces) to keep it engaging and prevent it from becoming dull.

A web commercial produced as part of GUNZE Limited’s 130th anniversary project, marking the company’s 130th year in August 2026. Taking advantage of the fact that some younger viewers may not even be able to read the company name “GUNZE,” the film vividly brings the catchphrase “Unreadable, GUNZE.” to life. The concept was developed by a team centered on KOO-KI’s younger staff, who themselves are among those on the “unreadable” side. KOO-KI’s Tatsushi Yuu, known for his wide range of directing styles, transformed their wildly free-spirited ideas into an entertaining visual piece. In addition to the “Calligraphy” version, the web commercial also includes a “Vision Test” version.

A sumo wrestler jumps off a roof and dives straight into a bathtub. A shot that would normally require an elaborate setup is rendered realistically yet in a humorous ukiyo-e style using generative AI. In addition to the “East — The Power of the Sun / Blue Sky” version, there is also the “West — Leave It to Us, Peace of Mind / Gold” version.
