2012
Only Image
The vocaloid opera THE END is a stage work in which Hatsune Miku asks questions about “life and death,” composed of computer-controlled electronic sound and multi-screen stereoscopic imagery, with no human singers or orchestra appearing. It was created as a collaborative work by some of Japan’s leading contemporary artists at the forefront of their fields, including musician/artist Keiichiro Shibuya, architect Shohei Shigematsu, visual artist YKBX, and sound artist evala. Since its premiere, it has accumulated an impressive performance history, including the 2012 Yamaguchi/YCAM performance, the 2013 Tokyo/Orchard Hall performance, performances at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the 2015 Amsterdam Opera & Ballet performance, the 2016 Kampnagel performance in Hamburg, the Musikhuset performance in Aarhus, Denmark, the 2017 paliashvili performance in Tbilisi, Georgia, and the Oz Asia Festival performance in Adelaide, Australia. It has also been widely covered by the media and has received high acclaim for its innovativeness, concept, and more.
