We co-produced the installation “Robotic Clapping Wall” for 7-ELEVEN Taiwan’s CSR campaign “Rhythm of Love” with ADK Taiwan. Robotic Clapping Wall is an installation featuring a donation box placed in front of a wall equipped with 12 robotic hands. Each time someone makes a donation, the hands on the wall clap for the donor. These “clapping robots,” which produce realistic clapping sounds, were co-developed with Bye Bye World. We also created a campaign website where users could make and share their own original clapping rhythms. Robotic Clapping Wall was exhibited at 7-ELEVEN stores throughout the greater Taipei metropolitan area from November 10 to December 8, 2018. http://7-11rhythmoflove.com.tw/

Don’t Drink Me – Taiwanese Beer Flavored Bath Bomb

2024

Whatever Taipei developed a “Taiwan Beer–flavored bath bomb” series in collaboration with the local Taiwanese brand HanBeer, as the second installment of its bath bomb line “Don’t Drink Me,” inspired by original Taiwanese drinks. https://www.pinkoi.com/product/CdznjmqQ Inspired by the drinking culture enjoyed at Taiwanese rechao (熱炒) restaurants, the series features three flavors: IPA, lychee beer, and osmanthus beer. Each bath bomb faithfully recreates the iconic aroma and realistic appearance of Taiwan Beer, with meticulous attention to detail, even down to the shape of the foam. Each bath bomb is also wrapped in a specially designed retro beer glass, which can be reused as a drinking glass after use. To commemorate the launch, a pop-up event was also held at “Wetland Venue” in Taipei, offering an immersive “tipsy bathroom” experience. Visitors could take photos in a bathtub surrounded by beer-colored tiles, or join a scent experience session at a unique sink made from stacked beer crates. One thing to keep in mind, however—this bath bomb is “Don’t Drink Me”!

Akabako: Embrace the Warmth of Japanese Bathing

Whatever Taipei designed a new key visual for “Aka Bako Beauty Soap,” the classic best-selling product of the long-established Japanese brand Cow Brand. It also planned the brand’s first-ever experiential special exhibition, “Sento-gaku.” https://www.cow-style.com.tw/index.php The key visual incorporates the classic atmosphere of a sento, designing “Aka Bako” to evoke a warm bath and create a soothing, comforting ambiance. In the experiential exhibition “Sento-gaku,” organized in collaboration with the Beitou Hot Spring Museum, Japanese sento culture is faithfully recreated, allowing visitors to explore the bathing culture of Japan. In the exhibition area of “Sento-gaku,” noren curtains once designed by Cow Brand to suit customs across Japan are displayed in a row. When visitors pass through them, they feel as if they have time-traveled back to a public bath from a hundred years ago. Various sento-related items are also on display, along with a mural of “Red Fuji” made by stacking Aka Bako bars; a faint fragrance fills the space, soothing both body and mind. In addition, during the exhibition period, theme lectures by popular instructors and a DIY soap stamp workshop were also held. Through “Aka Bako,” visitors were given an opportunity to bring Japan’s unique sento culture into their everyday lives.

Kenshi Yonezu New Album Release Event "LOST CORNER AR LIVE in HARAKADO"

2024

To commemorate the release of Kenshi Yonezu’s 6th album, LOST CORNER, we were responsible for the character design and AR production/design of “LOST CORNER AR LIVE in HARAKADO,” held at Tokyu Plaza Harajuku “Harakado.” LOST CORNER AR LIVE in HARAKADO is a roughly five-minute AR experience that lets visitors witness a fictional Kenshi Yonezu live performance, dancing freely through the streets of Harajuku to songs such as the opening theme of the anime Chainsaw Man, “KICK BACK,” and the theme song for the NHK TV drama series Tiger and Her Wings, “Sayounara Mata Itsuka!” By co-creating with SoVeC, part of the Sony Group, and leveraging the advanced capabilities of Sony’s VPS technology, which boasts outstanding precision and robustness, we were able to create an immersive presentation that blends reality and digital content.

NHK E-tele “Aokiiro” Animation “Kurikaeshi no Uta”

We created the animation “The Song of Repetition by ROUTINE RECORDS,” which is used in a new segment of NHK E Tele’s children’s program Aokiiro, together with HERALBONY. “Ao” and “kiiro” are different colors, but when the two overlap, they become the same “midori.” Aokiiro is a program that nurtures a “mindset of coexistence,” in which many forms of life overlap and resonate with one another, and people come to rejoice together, help one another, and live together. In “The Song of Repetition by ROUTINE RECORDS,” we use the “tone” of repetitive behaviors, or routines, which may at first seem strange to others, as exhibited by people with disabilities, as a guide to express their invisible “inner landscapes” through music and animation. We also produced a music video version, “The Song of Repetition,” which brings together the stories of four artists contracted with HERALBONY into a single song.

CONTINUITY24 Type2

2024, 2025
00:21:12
A project that has been ongoing since September 2020. A video is made every day. All of the “one day, one shot” images are based on the motif of fire. The aim is to create a continuity like a campfire—finite, yet somehow evoking infinity. These daily videos (fires) from January 1 to December 31, 2024, have been compiled here. At the same time, each video is given the name of a specific station. As if traveling, a fire is lit at each stop on a local train line. All of those station names are listed here. A station name contains memories and histories that differ from latitude and longitude or from municipal boundaries. If a station disappears or falls out of use, these videos (fires) may remember the memories left behind by the public.

Projection Mapping and Lighting Show : Upopoy Kamuy Symphonia

2020 ~
00:14:26
Japan’s first national facility dedicated to sharing the history and culture of the Ainu people, Upopoy, opened in Shiraoi, Hokkaido, on Sunday, July 12, 2020. It consists of a folk museum, an interactive field museum, and an Ainu coexistence park, and has drawn attention as a base for reviving and developing the fading Ainu culture. What JKD was in charge of this time was the highlight of Upopoy’s nighttime program starting on Saturday, July 18, 2020: a large-scale show combining projection mapping and lighting. It depicts the Ainu creation myth through a delicate yet dynamic hand-drawn full animation running for just under 14 minutes, synchronized with soul-stirring music and sound design. The visual work is projected mainly onto the walls of the dome-shaped Experience Exchange Hall, as well as the surrounding hills, river, and statues. Lighting placed throughout the vast grounds is tightly synchronized with the music and mapped visuals, creating a mystical spatial experience that draws viewers into the story. Among the audiovisual works JKD has produced so far, this is one of the top three. The music is by OKI, a musician internationally acclaimed for his work with the OKI Dub Ainu Band, and Kuniyuki Takahashi, also based in Sapporo and known worldwide for his activities. To pursue truly authentic expression, the four animators, Ryoji Yamada, Hana Ono, Yutaro Kubo, and Tatsuhiro Ariyoshi, took part in this serious collaboration. The opening and ending motion was handled by Shotaro Tomiyama and Ko Kudo of the JKD visual team, and the overall visual direction was by Shane Lester. The story unfolds through the Ainu creation myth in a vast site facing a beautiful lake. We believe we were able to create an experience that draws viewers in. If you ever have the chance to visit Hokkaido, please be sure to see it.
