Miho Hazama, the jazz composer born in Tokyo and now based in New York, who serves as chief conductor of the Danish Radio Big Band, created her latest album, “Imaginary Visions,” while traveling between the three cities of Copenhagen, New York, and Tokyo. Set to the track “I Said Cool, You Said… What?”, this interactive music video was conceived by Hazama herself so that viewers can enjoy the music while catching glimpses of each city and feeling as though they are the director. In collaboration with Whatever, Kudos Design Collaborative, and Conduit Projects, we launched KASA, a creative unit that plans and develops interactive experiences for museums and public spaces, and produced permanent interactive installations for Poster House, the first museum in the United States dedicated to poster art, which opened in New York in June 2019. https://posterhouse.org/ Poster House aims to present the history of poster art around the world, from the 1800s to the present, through exhibitions, events, and publications, and to pass on to future generations the social impact brought about by graphic design. Poster Wall — A 4K digital display that randomly shows high-resolution posters every few seconds from the museum’s extensive poster collection. Visitors can also select content themselves using buttons. Poster Wall is equipped with a dedicated management system that allows museum staff to easily add and update collection items through the system. Poster Machine — A digital installation that lets visitors experience the poster-making process as if they were graphic designers. At each step of the process, it explains the importance of the basic elements needed to create a poster—such as symbols, colors, phrases, fonts, and design styles—as well as design thinking. It makes it possible to design more than 143,000 different posters.

As a promotion aimed at appealing to younger audiences for the Gogoro S2 and Gogoro 2 Delight, electric motorcycles released in 2018 by Gogoro, which operates a shared electric scooter service in Taiwan, we produced “Gogoro Road to Stardom,” an experience that lets users create an original music video while riding a Gogoro. Inside the tunnel, we installed a massive LED floor, scooters, and mirrors on both sides. By having participants operate the handlebars and buttons, a variety of animations and background music were generated as interactive effects, creating an immersive experience in which visuals were projected across the entire tunnel like a kaleidoscope. The music videos created were edited so they could be shared on Instagram and could also be received by email. Gogoro Road to Stardom was exhibited in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung.

I was responsible for the overall direction of the special exhibition “I LOVE MAX MARA” for the Italian fashion brand Max Mara. The I LOVE MAX MARA exhibition was held from October 26 to November 10, 2018, at Hankyu Umeda Hall in Osaka. The aim was to blend extensive archival materials telling the story of the brand’s history and meticulous craftsmanship with digital content. As the highlight of the event, we created a 5-meter-tall “teddy bear coat” using 3D scanning. When visitors selected a coat color, an animation inspired by that color was projected in 360° onto the giant coat via projection mapping. We also planned and developed a variety of other experiences, including a fashion show utilizing that installation and a digital installation in another area where visitors could create their own maxmaragram using their name.

We co-produced the installation “Robotic Clapping Wall” for 7-ELEVEN Taiwan’s CSR campaign “Rhythm of Love” with ADK Taiwan. Robotic Clapping Wall is an installation featuring a donation box placed in front of a wall equipped with 12 robotic hands. Each time someone makes a donation, the hands on the wall clap for the donor. These “clapping robots,” which produce realistic clapping sounds, were co-developed with Bye Bye World. We also created a campaign website where users could make and share their own original clapping rhythms.
