Fujii Kaze - "Enough Already" Official Video

I worked on this piece through repeated discussions with Fujii Kaze. The concept of the work is vagrancy and true freedom. Until a few years ago, I had personal interactions with people experiencing homelessness, and I recalled what I had felt at that time when planning this project. The public image of “homeless = poor, unhappy” is, for some people, a misconception. The homeless people I met had chosen a free way of living unconstrained by society, and their hearts were very wealthy. And we, living in the present day, realized that we are bound by so many things and rules that we are not truly free. These are things I recalled and thought about only as part of constructing the work, and what I wanted to convey in this piece was: That beautiful things are not the only things that are beautiful, and that any existence can be made cool depending on the expression of the artist.

This piece features “Kei,” who calls himself a Poké Card doctor, carefully explaining the series of rules for the Pokémon Card Game to a boy named “Ren,” who has just obtained Pokémon cards, and is structured so that the new rules are explained to viewers as well. While following the structure and animation style of the previous explanation series, we were mindful of pacing and subtle character animation, deliberately avoiding excessive expression, effects, and animation so that viewers could stay engaged until the end while understanding the rules. Also, on a more detailed directorial note, this time voice actors Chisaki Kimura and Sako Ogawa added nuanced emotions at key moments, and I feel this resulted in an explanatory video that also lets viewers appreciate the delicate vocal performances they bring to the work.

YOASOBI "Comet" Official Music Video

A music video set in the world of the manga BEASTARS. The first 89 seconds also serve as the ending sequence for the second season of the TV anime BEASTARS. The blue-world portion in the first half was colored frame by frame entirely with watercolor paints. By combining this blue segment with the red-world segment that begins in the second half, which is expressed digitally, the video presents two extremes within a single music video, contrasting the tenderness and happiness that have filled the past in the story behind this song with the cruel reality that is to come. For the production of this video, three-dimensional models of each character were created. Using these as references for the drawings made it possible to depict the BEASTARS characters, whose complex shapes are difficult to express through animation, with hand-drawn animation.

NHK E-tele’s “Mittsuketa!” “Mouretsu ni Hassan!” music video. This song’s theme is to sing, dance, and “Hassan” away the stress you carry every day. From the nostalgic feel of the melody, we aimed for a high-energy video with a cheap, funny vibe reminiscent of the early days of CG in the Showa and Heisei eras. I was responsible for the direction, CG production, and editing, including compositing. Editing software used: Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects

We created the animation “The Song of Repetition by ROUTINE RECORDS,” which is used in a new segment of NHK E Tele’s children’s program Aokiiro, together with HERALBONY. “Ao” and “kiiro” are different colors, but when the two overlap, they become the same “midori.” Aokiiro is a program that nurtures a “mindset of coexistence,” in which many forms of life overlap and resonate with one another, and people come to rejoice together, help one another, and live together. In “The Song of Repetition by ROUTINE RECORDS,” we use the “tone” of repetitive behaviors, or routines, which may at first seem strange to others, as exhibited by people with disabilities, as a guide to express their invisible “inner landscapes” through music and animation. We also produced a music video version, “The Song of Repetition,” which brings together the stories of four artists contracted with HERALBONY into a single song.

An image-based video work centered on Atami and the surrounding areas, the setting of the TV anime Clean Freak! Aoyama-kun, composed from live-action footage. Over three days of filming in Atami, time-lapse shots and snapshots were meticulously gathered from early morning until sunset. By carefully editing and compositing this vast collection of cuts built around the keyword “beautiful” in accordance with the rhythm and flow of emotion, the work creates a visual experience in which everyday scenery gradually takes on color and seems to synchronize with one’s inner feelings.

A music video created based on a song inspired by photographer Munehide Ida’s photo book “EXPRESSWAY.” In this work, depth maps were generated from Munehide Ida’s photographs to give them three-dimensional movement, challenging the idea of “photographs coming to life once again.” While actively embracing the characteristics of the source material, including blur and noise, the piece intricately synchronizes them with piano sounds evoking a camera shutter and fast-paced developments. Through a unique approach, it reconstructs the tension and sense of speed inherent in the “moment” captured in photographs taken while driving on the Shuto Expressway at 100 km/h.

* This work contains abrupt flashing and rapid visual changes. As a result, it may trigger seizures in individuals with epilepsy or photosensitivity. Please exercise caution when viewing, and if you feel any discomfort, stop watching immediately. -- This is a motion graphics MV created under the concept of “making an MV that tricks the viewer for an instant.” Starting from the now-familiar composition often seen in recent vocaloid song MVs—an illustration placed against a single-color background—the moment the drop begins, the illustrated Teto Kasane opens her eyes and the background starts moving violently as well, drawing the viewer into the music through the sudden shift in tone. To create visuals that could stand up to a song driven by passionate feelings riding on a powerful beat, we incorporated plenty of data-like grime such as noise and moshing, and built the piece around motion graphics that still maintain a pleasing visual appearance.

When I heard the band’s image for the piece, I decided to build it from the feelings I had in my own youth. I directed it with the intention of turning those everyday moments from back then, and the emotions that strangely remain when you look back on them, into the visuals as they are. The apples that appear in the work are a visual expression of memories of youth. For me, youth is strongly connected to cinema as well, so I’ve also included a few slightly film-like scenes and ways of showing them here and there. By using an old compact digital camera and having the cast actually take some of the shots themselves, I think I was able to create a texture that feels close to the perspective and memories of the people who were there.

FUTURE IDOL – NANIMONO

2025
00:03:57
Description: At some point in time, humanity vanished from Earth in an instant. Countless pieces of space debris are scattered across Earth’s orbit. Among that debris, an optical disc happens to slip into a player, and the track begins to play. The thoughts left within the music take on the physical phenomenon of vibration and rain down upon the Earth. Parabolic antennas on the ground listen to the vibrations, and radio towers transmit radio waves of their own accord. Signage in an abandoned city displays the performer’s image, obscured by noise, while a three-dimensional hologram is projected onto a sandy beach. Waves gently brush against feet, and a semi-transparent body traces out the choreography. A roadside cathode-ray tube set bears a face mottled with static, hallucinating seven figures who should not be there. When the track ends, the player ejects the optical disc. The Earth glows, and the debris continues to circle in orbit.

Commentary: In representing Mr. Nagase, who exists across the dimensions of media, what I had in mind was to show the moment of crossing between dimensions. The passage back and forth between dimensions gradually accelerates, until eventually it crosses dimensions frame by frame. So rapid that the temporal arrangement can be mistaken for spatial contact, and with a movement of flicker that is too fast to stop and yet seems to stand still, the translucent body placed within it can touch you on the retina, between frame and frame. The haze that only becomes visible through motion was also fitting for a melody that feels as if carved out of a raging current—or perhaps written automatically—gentle / eerie / light. Listen to the blur, like a lump of light, with your eyes and ears.

1st single “Samezame” “Samezame” symbolizes an entity that overlaps with a frozen, numbed emotion and a shark that can survive only by continuing to swim. It sharply portrays an attachment to life, a sinking sensation, and the heart wavering between life and death. A destructive and emotional song where self-denial, frustration toward society, the desire for recognition, and a sense of emptiness intersect. Intense yet delicate words vividly capture the manic-depressive swings of emotion. Through the coexistence of bold yet delicate visuals that seem to have captured those fluctuations, analog-style animation that amplifies emotion, and sophisticated lyric design, it creates the world of “Samezame.”

2nd single "Circus of Monsters" Anger, loneliness, self-loathing. Hatred toward others, and a sense of unease so deep that you no longer even understand yourself. These unspeakable emotions are conveyed through sharp, unhinged lyrics, a destructive sound, and awkward, dizzying visuals. Beneath the provocative expression lies a painfully clumsy yet honest truth. It is a requiem for those who were forced to live as “monsters,” and a song that speaks for people carrying feelings they want to express but cannot.

A person who had grown cold and indifferent toward life (had given up) rises again, continuing to feed on the negative energy that they habitually sink into pessimistically. Mania and depression are human bugs. The logs left behind through creation become the energy to keep running all the way to the end credits. “Samesamegure” is a project and creative collective that expresses raw, intense emotions centered on the themes of mania and depression through music, video, and various other media. This concept film portrays “Samesamegure” swimming through the bugs, blending scenes of reality and unreality, and combining analog and digital techniques.

A drama centered on the encounter between a woman who once gave up her child and a young girl who brought life into the world through surrogacy, portraying a relationship that cannot be reduced to blood ties or systems. Through night streets and the repetitive landscapes of everyday life, it carefully traces the shifts in the time and distance the two share, bringing to light the ambiguity inherent in the concepts of “motherhood” and “family.” This work looks at the possibility of people who carry both choice and loss still continuing to live on. Description: A world on the brink of collapse, with only CCS left behind. In a city with no one in it, time at a standstill, and landscapes quietly weathering away, this work depicts the relationship between the smallest unit of connection: the self and companions. Because people are lonely, they think of others, and through that feeling, paradoxically, they strengthen the outline of their own existence. In this world, there is no clear answer, nor words that define the meaning of life. Even so, by thinking of someone, people can continue to remain faintly connected to the world. This work traces the love that dwells within loneliness, and the loneliness hidden deep within love.

Sculpture Without Mass or Form

2020 ~
00:01:24
Floating in the air, a colossal sculpture is born from a sea of foam, transcending the concept of mass. It neither sinks to the ground nor rises all the way to the ceiling, but drifts somewhere in the middle of the space. The outline of this floating sculpture’s existence is ambiguous; it can break apart into smaller pieces or merge together into a larger mass. Even if a person enters it with their whole body, its existence is maintained, and even if it is broken by people, it repairs itself. However, when the mass is destroyed beyond the range it can repair on its own, the repairs cannot keep up and it begins to collapse. And even if people try to push it or move it aside, they cannot move this sculpture; if people fan wind at it, the sculpture will scatter. No physical action by humans can even move this sculpture. Pebbles, and things humans have made up to now, are objects, and objects have stable structures in themselves. A pebble continues to exist even if placed in a sealed box cut off from the outside world. By contrast, a vortex born in the sea disappears instantly when moved into a closed box. In other words, a vortex does not maintain a stable structure of its own. A vortex is an existence within the flow created by its environment, formed by water that continuously flows from outside the vortex to inside, and from inside to outside. Sustained by the structured order generated by that flow, the vortex continues to exist and changes along with the flow. And the outline of its existence is ambiguous: both the vortex and the outside of the vortex are made of water, with no material difference at all. Instead of creating objects, by creating a special environment, existence is created through the order of energy generated by that environment. Let us call existence formed by this order of energy “Higher-Order Sculpture.” It cannot be separated from its environment and changes as the environment changes. It transcends the conventional understanding of existence based on objects, maintains its presence in midair, and has an ambiguous outline. Even if a person enters it with their whole body, its existence is maintained, and if it is broken, it repairs its own existence. It is a sculpture premised on an open system. In this space, the only matter that exists is water, air, and ordinary soap. By filling the space with foam, creating a singular environment, and generating an order of energy within it, a colossal mass is born from the sea of bubbles, rises up, and remains suspended in midair. In current biology, it is not possible to define life strictly, but for convenience, living things are called organisms if they are composed of cells, metabolize, and can self-replicate. In other words, all living things are made of cells. And all cells are enclosed by cell membranes composed of lipid bilayers. The outside of the bilayer is hydrophilic, the space between the layers is hydrophobic, and both the outside and inside of the enclosing sac are water. Soap bubbles are similarly enclosed by membranes made of lipid bilayers, and the bubbles that constitute this sculpture are structurally the same as cell membranes. However, unlike cells, the outside of the bilayer in a bubble is hydrophobic and the space between the layers is hydrophilic, so both the outside and inside of the sac are air. In other words, if a cell is a sac-like membrane in water, a bubble is a sac-like membrane in air. This sculpture is created from matter with the same structure as cells, the basic units of living organisms, and from the order of energy generated by the environment. Life, too, takes in matter and energy from outside as food, expels matter, and dissipates energy outward while forming ordered structures. Like a vortex, life is an existence within the flow of matter and energy created by the external environment, and the outline of its existence is ambiguous. The structure of life is the order of energy created by that flow, and life may be a miraculous phenomenon found within the flow of matter and energy. Catch and Collect: The Forest of Extinction

2025

An educational project conceived as a way to explore, discover, catch, observe, gather knowledge, and expand curiosity with one’s own body. In the Forest of Extinct Animals, extinct animals live. When you approach or touch the animals, they run away or turn around. You catch various kinds of extinct animals, observe them, and build your own collection encyclopedia. Using the smartphone camera, you look at the animals walking through the space, and when you cast the “eye of observation” at the animal visible on the screen, it flies into the real space. When the “eye of observation” hits the animal, it disappears from the space and enters your smartphone, where it is collected. When you swipe a captured animal to a place visible through the camera, it is released and returns to that spot. Also, if you cast an “observation net” wherever you like, an “observation net” will be spread at your feet. Working together with the people around you and using your body to drive the animals into the “observation net,” the animals disappear from the space and are collected in the encyclopedia in the same way. The collection encyclopedia fills in more detailed information the more times you catch the same animal. Description: This being slowly rises from the ground and comes to a stop in the air. It is not being suspended, nor does it have any power source of its own. This being transcends the concept of mass, and remains still in midair, neither on the ground nor at the ceiling. At times it rises, at times it sinks, and at times it stays motionless in the air. At times it moves abruptly, and at times it falls to the ground. Yet as if restoring its own state, it slowly rises again and comes to rest in the air. A Massless Sun and a Sun of Darkness

2022〜
00:01:45
We do not perceive the world we see. We see the world we perceive. Countless spheres of light. As people approach the spheres of light, they shine more intensely, and the surrounding spheres respond in turn, continuing one after another. If you widen your field of view and stare, spheres of darkness, like lumps of darkness that has solidified, also begin to appear. However, these spheres of light and darkness do not exist. The spheres of darkness do not even appear on camera. Nothing such as glass or any other object is present on the surface of the spheres of light; these spheres are made only of light. There is no material boundary surface, and the boundary between the sphere and the body remains ambiguous in perception. However, in this universe, light does not solidify, and it never forms into spherical masses by itself. In other words, these spheres of light do not exist. These spheres are not present in the physical world, but are sculptures that exist in the world of perception: "Cognitive Sculpture / Sculptures of Perception." Their material consists of light, the environment, the body, and perception. Shaped by the experiencer’s own dynamic body and perception, they appear and exist in the experiencer’s own perceptual world. When they exist in perception, that is existence. And the spheres cannot exist even in the world of perception on their own; they are created by the environment. The phenomena produced by the environment are the existence of the work.
