The Tokyo Dome performance held as the finale of XG’s first world tour, 【XG 1st WORLD TOUR “The first HOWL”】. COSMIC LAB created the content by building a unique system that seamlessly and freely integrates live camera footage with motion graphics and real-time VFX. It was an electrifying stage worthy of the finale of a world tour that spanned nearly a year, and a night that made the future of live camera direction feel within reach.

NHK E-TV’s “Miitsuketa!” music video for “Rakuda Katabura.” This is a song about “Rakudashi-san,” a traveling camel character played by Toma Ikuta. Written and composed by Rekishi (Takafumi Ikeda), it’s a pop number full of healing vibes that helps ease your mind when you’re tired. We were responsible for the direction, CG production, and editing (including all compositing). Editing environment: Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve

A five-minute program aired on NHK E-Tele, both in the morning and at night. As its name suggests, “0655” airs from 6:55 a.m., and “2355” airs from 11:55 p.m., five days a week, Monday through Friday. Planned with the goal of “creating the rhythm of the Japanese people,” the program was developed primarily by Masahiko Sato, Professor Mitsuko Okamoto of the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School, and NHK. Euphrates is responsible for the overall direction of the program and the production of video for many of its segments.

NHK E-tele’s “Mittsuketa!” “Mouretsu ni Hassan!” music video. This song’s theme is to sing, dance, and “Hassan” away the stress you carry every day. From the nostalgic feel of the melody, we aimed for a high-energy video with a cheap, funny vibe reminiscent of the early days of CG in the Showa and Heisei eras. I was responsible for the direction, CG production, and editing, including compositing. Editing software used: Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects

A game work in which the information each side shares is fragmented, experienced from three standpoints: AR, VR, and the audience. The game space is in a so-called multiplayer state, but the world seen from each standpoint is different, and from one’s own position, it is impossible to know what the other person is experiencing. The objects in the space are also synchronized only in terms of their positions, so they appear as different things to each other. Through uncertain interactions with the other party’s avatar, players engage with the other’s space that lies behind it.

An 8K video work produced as content for the NHK program “8K Techne.” It portrays an interplanetary journey on a radically different scale by using ordinary stones, treating as a visual technique the phenomenon in which the sense of scale is lost through the ultra-high resolution of 8K. Filming was done with a custom-built apparatus and macro photography, with a CG-generated spacecraft composited into the footage. Direction, art direction, VFX production, and music were all handled by the same team.

“What is not seen must be considered as valid as what is seen, whether it is gravity or the miracles of transubstantiation.” We are inclined to live in our own little bubble and forget the vastness of existing reality which our eyes cannot directly see. One “knows” a world not only in the sense of recognizing it, but also in the act of shaping and “realizing” it. We are all navigating on our private atlases. The path is not a given, but is made in the treading of it–we move by our beliefs, curiosity, and association. We keep arranging imaginary rhumbs on an ever growing map in a way we associate with successful navigation. If we pause to ponder about it, we realize that our map shows all the things we still do not know. We are lost, disoriented, we are at sea.

A rice musical shot in stop motion, with faces actually drawn on 4,596 grains of rice. The main rice character is based on Omisohan, with hair made of miso and a hat made of red chili peppers. The stars are the rice grains. It is the story of a girl who loved rice when she was little, but as she grew up, she stopped eating it as much. Left behind without being eaten, the rice grains remain. This is a story sung from the feeling of having watched that girl grow up all along. Omisohan herself sings together with the rice grains.
