Created using photographs and hand-drawn animation

Branding movie for SHIBUYA QWS, located on the 15th floor of Shibuya Scramble Square. SHIBUYA QWS is a co-creation space whose purpose is to bring together people with diverse personalities and expertise around the “questions” that arise in everyday life, discover “seeds of possibility,” and ask those questions of the world. By treating speech bubbles as people, the film depicts the process through which those who gather at SHIBUYA QWS deepen their “questions” through the stages of “meeting → refining → releasing.” It also uses collage and motion graphics to express in detail the chemical reactions created by genre-defying interactions across different fields, languages, and more.

Ueno Land opened in 2017 with the aim of “curating the area around Ueno as a museum,” and set out to become a specialty shop for Ueno souvenirs, something that had never quite existed before. In this promotional video, based on Ueno Land’s concept, the charm and fun of Ueno—where history, culture, and art coexist—is expressed through three different animations set against the backdrops of “the Saigō Takamori Statue,” “Ameyoko,” and “the National Museum.” *The video shown here is an edited compilation of the three separate videos into one.

This work was created for an exhibition at “La Samaritaine,” a long-established Parisian department store founded in 1869. Taking the Zen phrase “Fūkō Hibi Arata” as its keyword, and with the theme of the ever-shifting everyday in reality and the virtual, it was presented as a symbolic work for an exhibition that reinterprets Art Nouveau in the present day. The peacock depicted here is based on an Art Nouveau fresco painted across the entire uppermost level of the atrium at La Samaritaine. Through “raster scroll,” a technique used in side-scrolling video games, it was transformed into an animation of pixelated nature in which no frame is ever the same. It presents the beauty of a new nature in the contemporary world where reality and the virtual overlap, as well as a new abundance for humankind that lives in harmony with it. The pixelated plants may wither, yet they bloom with new flowers.
