A music video set in the world of the manga BEASTARS. The first 89 seconds also serve as the ending sequence for the second season of the TV anime BEASTARS. The blue-world portion in the first half was colored frame by frame entirely with watercolor paints. By combining this blue segment with the red-world segment that begins in the second half, which is expressed digitally, the video presents two extremes within a single music video, contrasting the tenderness and happiness that have filled the past in the story behind this song with the cruel reality that is to come. For the production of this video, three-dimensional models of each character were created. Using these as references for the drawings made it possible to depict the BEASTARS characters, whose complex shapes are difficult to express through animation, with hand-drawn animation.

I searched for algorithms whose names begin with each of the 26 letters from A to Z, and used them to create animated typography. Since the rise of NFTs, the genre of generative art has been undergoing renewed reevaluation. Although I have spent many years writing code and making works myself, when asked, “What is generative art?” I often find myself unsure how to answer. At the core of generative art are algorithms. Of course, one can create one’s own, but there are already many “masterpiece” algorithms in existence. In this work, I reimplemented those algorithms in JavaScript. Through this project, I want to think about the appeal of coding and algorithms, apart from art or design. It is also an attempt to place value on the process, which is often overlooked in the age of AI, and to once again draw out the joy of implementation.

This video is a re-edited vision piece based on the invasive species Reeves’s muntjac, which causes agricultural damage and affects ecosystems on Izu Oshima, and on the practices and narratives surrounding the regional utilization of its meat. It reconstructs, as a single story, the narratives gained through an interactive workshop consisting of a booklet-based understanding of the current situation and problem-posing, a dissection demonstration, tasting, and dialogue, along with insights obtained through fieldwork. It visualizes, in narrative form, signs of aversion, hesitation, reevaluation, and sharing, depicting the process of rethinking a pest not merely as a target for extermination, but as part of the region’s food culture through the act of gratefully and deliciously consuming life. It presents the issue surrounding the Reeves’s muntjac as a subject for reconsidering the relationship between the region, life, and social coexistence.

The theme was “Create a promotional video that conveys the appeal of VGT ONLINE 2025, centered on Create Synergy.” The concept links the anticipation of people waiting for the event to begin with the excitement creators feel in the moment before a render is complete. By incorporating an expression that combines 2D motion graphics in After Effects with physics-based simulations in Blender, the work embodies “synergy” through a new approach to the production process as well.

Description: Set against Wakayama’s profound history and magnificent natural scenery, this 30-minute audiovisual installation explores the theme of “mixing and binding” — the fusion of different religions and genres, as seen in shinbutsu-shūgō. It offers a visual and musical experience projected onto eight totems, each 4 meters high, evoking the towering ancient trees of Kishu, and reflects Wakayama’s “spirit of tolerance” found in places such as Koyasan, the Kumano Sanzan, and in the thought of Minakata Kumagusu. Drawing inspiration from the Kumano pilgrimage, the work portrays Wakayama’s character — its acceptance and coexistence beyond differences in religion, social status, nationality, and ideology — as a journey through future, past, present, and once again into the future. This journey is an experience of “rebirth,” a space where Japanese tradition and digital expression, the real and the virtual, the West and the East intersect, reflecting the spirit of shinbutsu-shūgō.
There, Minakata Kumagusu’s belief that “truth lies in between the two” comes alive. Drawing inspiration from the Kumano pilgrimage, the work portrays Wakayama’s character — its acceptance and coexistence beyond differences in religion, social status, nationality, and ideology — as a “journey of rebirth” through future, past, present, and once again into the future. Through flickering light, pulses, and shifting colors, it depicts a world on the verge of creation. 02. PAST A journey into the origins of Wakayama.
Tracing the land’s deep memories through historical elements such as volcanic activity, nature, and mandala scrolls. 03. PRESENT A chapter that moves through the diverse landscapes that could be called the hundred views of Wakayama.
It captures the culture, daily life, and beauty alive in modern Wakayama. 04. FUTURE / RESURRECTION A dreamlike finale centered on the theme of “rebirth” leading into the future, using reverse-playback imagery.
As a symbol that transcends the boundaries of religion, gender, and nationality, totems appear and visually embody the “spirit of tolerance.” About the event movie The five great elements of esoteric Buddhism at Koyasan — fire, water, wind, void, and earth — are translated into visual expression,
making visible the flow by which they merge to form the universe.
It conveys the spiritual depth of Wakayama in a visual and sensory way. What does “Mixing, Binding.” mean? The word “musu,” found in Takamimusubi-no-Kami and Kamimusubi-no-Kami, two of the three creator deities in Japanese mythology,
means “to give birth” or “to produce,” and represents the power to generate new life and relationships.
As seen in words such as musuko and musume,
“musu” has long been a core concept in Japanese, meaning “generation” and “bonding.” Shimenawa and shide, seen at shrines and sacred sites, are symbols of “binding” that sanctify space and invite the gods. We chose this “musu (Musubu)” as the theme of this work because it is a word that symbolizes the spirit of Wakayama, which has passed down Japan’s oldest culture to the present day.

SOUL MOTION is an interactive map that uses location tags embedded in uniforms. The sensors capture real-time data and also display records of the past three days, such as weather, total communication volume, visitor numbers, and individual trajectories. When visitors approach the “soil” or “sofa” zones, virtual microbes swarm to those locations, showing how they multiply or decline depending on environmental conditions. A light touch on the sensors makes them scatter, revealing a constantly changing, dynamic map. By visualising invisible processes such as microbes, technology, and the delicate rhythms of human relationships, SOUL MOTION prompts us to reconsider the hidden environments around us and creates an opportunity to rethink the connections between people and between people and nature.

Thank you for watching. ◻︎Concept / Overview From an everyday life that feels somehow cramped and hard to breathe, to a daydream world of my own where I can breathe a little easier. I didn’t really find anything I was looking for, and yet my heart felt full, and it seemed like I caught a glimpse of a tiny ray of hope. …This kind of inner landscape is expressed through hand-made stop-motion (pixilation). By spending time filming analog-style in the creator’s hometown, I wanted to capture the atmosphere of the city, the gentle sunlight, and the soft breeze— things that cannot be fully conveyed by AI works generated in an instant— and bring into the film that somewhat nostalgic feeling that exists in everyone’s heart. While calculating changes in the weather and the timing of the sunset, filming frame by frame was challenging, but through dialogue with nature, I was able to rediscover the joy of creating as a human being. This work is an independently produced original short film. Including the preparation period, it took about five months to complete (October 2025 to February 2026). Description: A bird wanders through the forest, continuing to search for precious memories. Before long, it gets lost in a mysterious world inside a tree hollow. There, it finds a strangely shaped dead tree. On that tree, the bird begins fishing toward the sky, trying to catch a star where memories sleep. Using its own feathers as bait... The finite body, and the world of memories and imagination, invisible to the eye yet holding infinitely expanding possibilities. Which, after all, is more important? The work is expressed through special stop-motion techniques, including puppetry, flat sand art, and casting paint shadows onto washi paper. Production began independently in 2016. After editing, it was completed in 2025.

The stage leading to the runway is treated as a "game stage," using dot-based characters, UI, effects, and transitions to create an immersive experience that makes the audience feel as if they have stepped into a game. By combining the nostalgic texture of 8-bit visuals with a contemporary sense of pop culture and street style, the message of "choose your own style and play it" is brought to life visually.

This work reconstructs the story of the anime Dr. STONE around a single axis of time: the time shared by the protagonist Senku and his father, Byakuya. Thousands of years of time, severed by petrification. And yet what was passed down was knowledge, will, and hope. The visuals were designed around the theme of “the future” handed down from father to child.

This work is a video piece that was exhibited and screened as part of an ambient projection-mapping presentation at the EXPO Hall “Shine Hat” and the Popup Stage East Outside at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. Taking as its motif the “EXPO 2025 Design System” IDs, affectionately known as “Komyaku” at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, and with Kohta Hikichi, a representative member of the team that created it, serving as an advisor, we drew on the expertise in artificial-life ecological systems that HiRai has long been researching to create a real-time video simulation system and visuals. In producing the video, we referenced the design system’s history of being prototyped based on metaballs, and developed a real-time simulator in which the Komyaku behave as if they were alive while retaining the identity of the design itself. By using GPGPU to calculate the interactions among large numbers of Komyaku in real time, we built a system that can be flexibly expanded to support a wide range of possibilities, including interaction and the generation of one-of-a-kind videos. At the Popup Stage East Outside, we also took advantage of the architectural characteristics of a structure in which the projected image is interrupted by support columns, and created visuals that made it look as though each steel beam were packed full of Komyaku. We pursued video production that made the most of the characteristics of the projection surface. The name “Komyaku” naturally spread as a nickname referring to the IDs that make up the design system. Taking into account this derivative, fan-created cultural expansion, this work intentionally uses the term “Komyaku.”

Created as an internal simulator for “Interface Prototype for Different Natures,” exhibited in “Surprisingly Heartful,” the third installment of the 8th KUMA EXPERIMENT, a group exhibition by KUMA Foundation grantees. Based on an artificial ecosystem simulator that uses GPGPU technology to calculate the real-time interactions of large numbers of artificial life forms, it was designed to create a space in which artificial life living in computational space and humans (viewers) living in physical space could interact on equal terms. To that end, I built a system using hardware and sensors that enabled both sides to interact spontaneously with one another. From the perspective of the video work itself, I also incorporated expressions such as the surface of a liquid, exploring ways to make the boundary feel less apparent when exhibited on a touch display.

Exhibited at NTT ICC Kids Program “Kimi ( ). Code ( ). Sekai ( ).” This program was an event for children during summer vacation, and this work was also created with elementary school children and younger viewers in mind. Using bubbles, a “boundary” commonly found in nature, as its motif, the work creates a simulation that expresses an ecosystem composed of multilayered enclosed regions. This simulator runs in real time using GPGPU technology, enabling interaction with viewers. Sensors installed at the floor level detect the movements of children, allowing interaction between the artificial ecosystem and the children. In addition, a new projection sheet was installed for this work, and by instructing viewers to step onto it barefoot, the experience was designed so that they could engage with the artificial ecosystem on a life-size scale while feeling the raw texture through the soles of their feet.

Exhibited at PARCO P.O.N.D. 2022. A swarm of artificial lifeforms, each with distinct genes and intelligence, formed groups for their own survival and the preservation of their genes, preying on other species and reproducing through mating; this behavior was simulated in real time using GPGPU technology. The activities of each lifeform produce changes only in their immediate vicinity, but those effects spread through a network of interactions, forming a diverse ecosystem. This work was exhibited on a human-height touch display on the fifth floor of Shibuya PARCO, enabling life-size interaction. The touch display was installed midway along a route traveled by people with a wide range of attributes as they moved through the shops, creating unpredictable encounters between the ecosystem and viewers, while also becoming a place for unexpected communication among viewers mediated by the work. As part of “Katawara,” a project to make artificial life exist alongside everyday life, the simulator was run continuously for more than a week in 2024, and the process was streamed on YouTube Live.

CG animation for the “Nemuru Ma Anime” segment included in U-NEXT Kids’ picture-book reading program “Nemuru Ma Ehon.” By weaving together the factory motifs that Masaya Ishikawa had explored in his previous works with the absurd ideas of Senpuukyaku Hoshiko, the piece was brought to life as a mysterious and charming visual work. The 3DCG production was handled by Hoshiko. Through repeated trial and error, the process by which “something” whose state keeps changing—such as being stretched or painted—is manufactured was visualized. In the latter half, frame-by-frame “faces” are given to the manufactured objects to endow them with emotion, retelling the factory line as a single story.

Directed and handled the compositing for the lyric video of BUMP OF CHICKEN’s “I,” the ending theme for the TV anime My Hero Academia. The video was crafted so that the various “Quirks” featured in the series would color the screen in sync with the lyrics. Packed with direction inspired by the story, it was created to deliver a level of visual impact that goes beyond the usual scope of a lyric video.
