This is the final commercial for IMS, a landmark shopping complex in Tenjin, Fukuoka, which closed at the end of August 2021. In addition to the TV commercial, we also handled the overall closure campaign, including large hanging banners, website assets, various transit ads, and newspaper advertisements. The piece was designed so that the closure would not feel negative, so that it would not seem like a mere ending, and so that it would also convey gratitude to everyone who loved it. I was responsible for the motion design and compositing in the scenes where the frame is in motion. For the camera motion, I used a lot of linear movement, creating motion design that brings out the appeal of the animation within a limited runtime. Even with the constraint of using only black and white, I made full use of impact frames and vignettes to express atmosphere and tension.

The fourth installment in the SynaPsyu anime series, “Tsukutuku Tsukumochan,” is themed around summer. Tsukumochan is a character inspired by “tsukumogami,” spirits said to dwell in objects that have been used with care. It portrays the Japanese sensibility of sensing life in familiar things through gentle expressions that can be understood even by babies and children.

Opening video created to mark the Tokyo International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival’s renaming to “Rainbow Reel Tokyo” in 2017, the year the festival celebrated its 25th anniversary. Using the phenakistoscope, a visual toy invented in 1831 that exploits the persistence of vision, as a motif, we aimed to evoke the historical atmosphere of this queer film festival in Japan.
