I was in charge of directing the opening sequence for the TV anime “Detective Conan.” Rather than simply putting together an opening, I thought about how I could somehow incorporate a “mystery.” Based on the fact that the mysterious character revealed in this work was a one-eyed man, I decided to embed a message in the animation when the left eye of the main characters appearing in the video is closed. In addition, in order to connect it with the film title, I structured the opening so that Conan-kun runs from Shibuya to Takeshiba Pier, and within that route I came up with a gimmick where text appears when half of the screen is mirrored and copied. During the broadcast period, I couldn’t quite relax because it felt like I was being chased by many detectives, but it seems that many people took on this mystery-solving challenge, and as a result it became a very enjoyable opening sequence for me personally as well. I was extremely anxious because I couldn’t find the “W” and “T” for a long time, and I remember feeling a strange mix of joy and relief when I finally found them at the intersection of the Shibuya pedestrian overpass and Shinichi’s bridge. I would be happy if those who watched it would take a moment to think about what kind of mystery might be hidden within it.

Rather than simply putting together a standard opening, I wanted to somehow incorporate a “mystery,” and after thinking it through, I based the concept on the fact that the mysterious character revealed in this film is the one-eyed man, and decided to embed a message in the visuals when the left eyes of the main characters appearing in the footage are closed. I directed the music video for Jizou Sonzai name-less’s “Danzai Democracy.” We created an actual playable game, captured its gameplay footage, and used it to compose the entire MV. To suggest that words of justice can, before long, end up hurting people, the opening begins as a game about freeing people, but by using cheats it is reversed, and people end up being restrained instead. This is our first attempt to express the artist’s distinctive background through the medium of a game.

In Umeda, Osaka, “JP TOWER OSAKA” is scheduled to open in March 2024, followed by “KITTE OSAKA” in July 2024. This teaser concept movie serves as an invitation to the opening of KITTE OSAKA. A place where connections between people, cultures, and all kinds of people, things, and events begin. Using postage stamps as a motif, the film begins with a single sheet of paper and incorporates actual stamps in use, while combining stop-motion, collage using archival photos from the time of the first Osaka Station and the former Osaka Central Post Office, and live-action footage.

This work is an installation piece involving water, mica, and vibration, presented at Komagome SOKO in 2022. In the petri dish peered into by the viewer, droplets run across the surface of the water, generated in time with the cycle of sound as it swells with intense vibration and then falls silent again, before disappearing back into the water. By capturing the water’s surface in real time with macro photography and projecting it at a large scale, I sought to follow the story of each tiny droplet as a unique presence, born and vanished, much like tracking a character in a film. 12-20 March 2022 'ETERNAL Art Space' Panasonic Center Ariake “Forms of Foam” is edited by selecting scenes from records of various live performances at different times and places, moments when bubbles are given a role beyond simply being bubbles in a painting and become a kind of metaphor, and then newly combining them. While the environment, role, and value surrounding phenomena change within society, bubbles continue to strive for a spherical form, and water continues to flow as water. This work briefly observes by layering the ever-changing form of ephemera with the unchanging form of foam.

Description: I directed the music video for ASTERISM’s cover of “Kaikai Kitan,” by a band that debuted as an instrumental metal group. When I listened to the sounds played by the members, I had the sensation that the instruments were singing, and after thinking about how to visualize that, I had the members write down those sounds as lyrics. It was our first attempt at “instrumental lyrics,” and it was very fun to visualize the sounds they hear, matched to the music. I directed the video for the world premiere of a concept car developed by Subaru Tecnica International. Because of the nature of a world premiere, it was necessary to avoid clearly revealing the car’s appearance and design, so we focused on making each part look more striking and advanced without showing everything, using narrow, powerful beams of light projected onto the body and parts to capture their shapes in a way that could be felt.
