This work was created for the exhibition “Patterns of Flow.” --- “Patterns of Flow” is an exhibition celebrating a new generation of Japanese artists who create work using code. Following in the footsteps of computer art pioneer Hiroshi Kawano’s experimental aesthetics and continuing the international dialogue initiated by Jasia Reichardt, this exhibition explores the power of generative systems to capture a world in flux. Led by Shunsuke Takao, who inspires the Japanese Processing community through his daily coding practice, Patterns of Flow is a collaboration between Right Click Save and MASSAGE MAGAZINE, and is presented at Feral File and NEORT++ in Tokyo’s downtown district. Her work “Changes, Cycles, and Shapes in Between” analyzes the process by which Mondrian arrived at his final forms through an approach in which shapes and colors evolved organically. In painting, “form” has axes of and , while “color” also has an axis of . Referring to the “Diagram of Composition in Painting,” mole^3 developed a method of simultaneously circulating multiple visual idioms and expressed that cycle within the work itself. In this way, “Changes, Cycles, and Shapes in Between” evokes the shifting state of digital material oscillating between figuration and abstraction—literally, “patterns of flow.” Furthermore, by incorporating textures printed with a baren, she encoded her identity as a printmaker in a native digital form. This work uses photographs that capture Yamaguchi Prefecture’s natural environment and local character to express the changing seasons and the cycle of nature. Through programming, the pixels that make up the photographs are repeatedly broken apart and set in motion, layering and shifting to generate new forms and rich colors. We hope these transformations convey the growth of plants and the energy of nature, and deliver a powerful message of beginnings and renewal in life. “Curiosity Blocks” is an animated work that uses the technique of anamorphosis, in which a distorted image is drawn in advance so that it appears correctly when reflected in a cylindrical mirror. The artist envisioned curiosity connecting and overlapping, generating new knowledge and discoveries, and used a method of combining multiple animation elements. The artist, who is also a printmaker, superimposed the relationship between plate and print onto the relationship between the image on the display and the image in the mirror, and incorporated into the animation the layered structure of multi-color prints, in which each color has its own distinct layer and overlaps to form a layered composition. The title “Blocks” carries meanings such as “a mass,” “divisions separated by a grid,” “a series of instructions in a program,” and “a woodblock printing plate.”

Through precise adjustments that required a tremendous amount of work, the level of completion was further elevated, resulting in a finish that emphasizes its unity with the music. We aimed to create a work that pursued “coolness.” By drastically reducing the amount of color and unifying the overall visual look, then increasing the volume of color information during the chorus to excite the viewer, the piece also carries a somewhat satirical view of society: that this kind of “coolness” may in fact be a “violence of information overload.” It is also a work in which I confronted something fundamental at the root of my own creative practice. I also believe that by ignoring readability in the graphic elements, I was able to push the true potential of the designer to the limit.

As a motion designer myself, this work was created from the imagination of “If I were a Pokémon, what kind of skills and traits would I use to appeal to people?” By fusing the fields of 2D and faux 3D, this piece reinterprets them as an engaging motion animation.

Description: This work depicts a fantastical landscape that evokes a scene from a science fiction film. A massive artificial structure suddenly appears amid majestic nature. Through its uncanny presence, the work expresses the relationship between artificial and natural elements, as well as the fragility of landscapes as they change over time. In creating this piece, I aimed to complete a single scene in a short period of time, working under the constraint of finishing everything from concept to rendering in approximately two hours. A girl who feels insecure about her naturally curly hair gets seven different hairstyles using Quaxly’s gel! She enjoys experimenting with fashion, but in the end realizes that her own hair texture is the best of all. This is a story MV. While fulfilling the girl’s longing for stylish self-expression, it also carries the message that “being yourself is wonderful, too.” Directed and written by Taketo Shinkai, who has extensive directing experience at ETV; animation by Imomushi, a creator active on works such as “Sina Pusiu”; and vocals by the chill musician kiki vivi lily. CITIZEN’s design philosophy film, created to commemorate the company’s 100th anniversary. In a time when attitudes toward “what a watch should be” and “how we engage with time” are undergoing significant change, we conducted interviews with 25 members of CITIZEN’s Design Department about their thoughts on “making watches,” and produced this film based on those recordings. The audio data will be preserved as an in-house archive at CITIZEN Watch for the next 100 years. This film was created to convey to as many people as possible the meaning of making watches, which is the core of the company’s business, as well as the passion behind watchmaking for CITIZEN’s future.

With the renewal of the recruitment website for Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo, a long-established hotel with over 70 years of history, we produced three types of videos: background footage for the recruitment site, a recruitment concept movie, and a 15-minute vision movie. Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo has been building its history alongside its lush gardens. By connecting scenes of employees at work and interviews from various departments—such as front desk clerks, guest room service, sales planning, and culinary staff—who embody the spirit of hospitality every day, we aimed to create a vision movie that thoughtfully conveys to applicants the values Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo holds dear, as well as the appeal of working there. For the video that plays in the background of the recruitment website, we focused on conveying the hotel’s one-of-a-kind scenery and the refined atmosphere that flows throughout the property, featuring the nature of the gardens, historic sites, and the distinctive design details found throughout Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo.

Description: We captured on film the production process and Mr. Sugimoto’s thoughts leading up to the creation of the Enoura Observatory, an artistic garden designed by contemporary artist Hiroshi Sugimoto and said to be the ultimate Sugimoto work. Rather than filming only the building itself, we wanted to create visuals that would also convey Mr. Sugimoto’s philosophy, so at the beginning we intercut imagery with Mr. Sugimoto’s striking words, creating a structure that broadens the viewer’s imagination, as if peeking slightly into Mr. Sugimoto’s own mind.
