In collaboration with Special Group Australia, we planned and produced new TV commercials, out-of-home advertising, and social media content for Uber Eats Taiwan’s 2020 campaign, “Tonight, I’m having…”. For this campaign, we featured Taiwan’s top model Chi-Ling Lin and legendary rock star Wu Bai, creating scenes in which the two share their beauty secrets while enjoying their favorite meals in Chi-Ling Lin’s glamorous dressing room. The social content also includes behind-the-scenes footage and a food-themed drawing game. By combining celebrities’ habits and public image with humor, the campaign expresses Uber Eats’ brand identity.

“Rakugaki AR” is an app that brings to life the dream everyone has imagined: “What if the things I draw came to life...?” Whether it’s a doodle drawn in a notebook or on a whiteboard, when you scan it with this app, it comes to life and starts walking around in a virtual space through your smartphone. Feed it, poke it, and play around with your doodles brought to life. The iOS version was released early on Saturday, August 1, 2020, and reached 460,000 downloads within five days of launch. Thanks to being introduced by well-known manga artists and illustrators, it trended on Twitter, reaching No. 6, and it also took No. 1 on the paid app overall rankings in eight countries and regions around the world (Japan, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia) for iPhone. We developed “ROBOT VIEWING,” a system that allows people who find it difficult to visit events in person due to distance, time, disabilities, chronic conditions, or infection prevention measures to freely participate in events by remotely operating on-site robots from home online. With “ROBOT VIEWING,” multiple people, such as family members or acquaintances (currently up to five), can log in together, enjoy the event by operating a robot at the venue while video chatting, and communicate with people on-site through the robot’s speaker. The system also includes an online reservation and scheduling function, making it possible to flexibly schedule robot operation according to the event timetable and the number of units deployed. Going forward, we plan to add updates such as integration with a payment system and a function for projecting video on-site, and will develop this into a service that can be used not only for art exhibitions but also for product launch events and various indoor exhibition events. Description: We were responsible for planning the “Hand Wash Dance” broadcast on NHK, as well as producing the video and logo design. As the world was facing severe restrictions on daily life due to the COVID-19 pandemic and people were feeling down, we wanted to create a video content piece that would encourage handwashing as a coronavirus countermeasure while also helping viewers feel upbeat and positive. The idea we came up with was to create a “handwashing routine like a dance” that everyone would want to try. Based on finger tutting, a dance style that mainly uses the fingers, it became a “hand wash dance” that is a little challenging yet fun and allows you to wash your hands properly. Starting with NHK, it is scheduled to be broadcast on TV stations around the world in the future.

Shopify, the rapidly growing e-commerce platform making waves around the world. We planned and produced its first brand campaign in Japan, for a company already used by more than one million shops. We expressed Shopify’s strengths—that you can easily launch a full-scale online store and expand its rich functionality as your business grows—through the tagline “Take your shop to the next step.” and a single-take video showing a store continuously evolving and growing. In banner and graphic ads as well, we created visuals of product displays likened to an upward-trending graph, simply expressing the shop’s transformation and growth.

I produced the music video for “Spaceship” (translated title), a new song by Wu Qing-feng, a singer-songwriter popular in Taiwan and across Asia. Set to 8-bit game music, the video uses live action and animation to express the song’s worldview, in which Wu Qing-feng sings about overcoming life’s hardships like a game. At Wu’s strong request, the animation illustrations were specially drawn by Hiroshi Abe, known for Arashi no Yoru ni and Zoo Guide.

Description: We were responsible for planning and producing the new music video game “ROCKMAN 20XX ~ Fight, TEAM SHACHI~,” created as a special collaboration project between TEAM SHACHI and Rockman. https://rocketqueen.games/ This highly challenging smartphone game, designed to be played alongside TEAM SHACHI’s new song “Rocket Queen feat. MCU,” is based on Rockman 2 and built around the theme of “Rockman 30 years later.” In this future world, not only Rockman himself, but also nostalgic boss characters from Rockman 2 such as Metal Man and Air Man appear as older versions of themselves. As part of the promotion for the Special Exhibition “Romance of the Three Kingdoms,” held at the Tokyo National Museum starting Tuesday, July 9, we planned and developed “Bushi Maker” together with the exhibition team. In collaboration with Whatever, Kudos Design Collaborative, and Conduit Projects, we launched KASA, a creative unit that plans and develops interactive experiences for museums and public spaces, and produced permanent interactive installations for Poster House, the first museum in the United States dedicated to poster art, which opened in New York in June 2019. https://posterhouse.org/ Poster House aims to present the history of poster art around the world, from the 1800s to the present, through exhibitions, events, and publications, and to pass on to future generations the social impact brought about by graphic design. Poster Wall — A 4K digital display that randomly shows high-resolution posters every few seconds from the museum’s extensive poster collection. Visitors can also select content themselves using buttons. Poster Wall is equipped with a dedicated management system that allows museum staff to easily add and update collection items through the system. Poster Machine — A digital installation that lets visitors experience the poster-making process as if they were graphic designers. At each step of the process, it explains the importance of the basic elements needed to create a poster—such as symbols, colors, phrases, fonts, and design styles—as well as design thinking. It makes it possible to design more than 143,000 different posters.

We planned and produced the generative movie “ART OF SHOPPING,” which plays on the display behind the register inside the new experiential flagship shop “@cosme TOKYO” in front of JR Harajuku Station. “ART OF SHOPPING” is a video work that uses product images and product information, along with purchase times and other purchase-related data (POS data) from items bought at @cosme TOKYO, to generate kaleidoscope-like patterns in real time. By combining this with a range of @cosme’s proprietary data, such as review counts and Best Cosmetics awards, we developed a system that visually generates a wide variety of designs from the store’s most recent data. Furthermore, when the store is busy, the kaleidoscopic designs move more dynamically, allowing purchasing behavior within the store itself to be reflected in real time.

We collaborated with NHK to create CHEER PLAYER, a service that makes it easy for anyone to share the excitement and emotion of cheering, and, as its first real-world application, partnered with NHK Student Robocon. https://www.nhk.or.jp/robocon/ 　 CHEER PLAYER can be used simply by visiting the site, without downloading an app. When you cheer through CHEER PLAYER, your own cheers and everyone else’s appear on screens at the venue and on the broadcast, helping to make the event even more exciting. 　 Built with the desire to create a new TV viewing experience that lets many people—including not only men and women of all ages, but also people with disabilities—share a new way of cheering, this new service/tool was developed with careful attention to many details beneath its simple experience, including directions that let viewers more vividly feel the excitement of cheering and an interface designed to be easy to use while watching.

As one of the content offerings for “Dino Expo 2019,” held at the National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno in July 2019, I was involved in the creative direction of “DINO PLAY,” an interactive experience where visitors could play with Troodon, a dinosaur whose full skeletal reconstruction was unveiled to the world for the first time. By reacting to the movements of people standing in front of the screen, Troodon would perform a variety of actions, and visitors could also take commemorative photos together. "Revival Day" is a program that gives people the chance to reunite, just once more, with someone who is no longer in this world. In the program, the reunion between Tetsuro Degawa and his biological mother, who passed away eight years ago, is recreated. Whatever was responsible for planning and technical direction, art direction, and the production of the making-of movie "Behind the scene." ーーー [Creator's Comment] What I paid the most attention to on the art direction side was keeping television-style direction to a minimum, so that viewers could focus on the conversation between Degawa and his mother, Yasuko. For that reason, I proposed an extremely simple set design consisting of only chairs and a monitor. On the technology side, the biggest challenge was the complete lack of reference photos and footage. A few low-resolution printed photos, and a lucky find: about 15 seconds of footage of Degawa and Yasuko appearing together for the only time. There was almost no audio data. Under those circumstances, recreating a person from the past with CG was an extremely difficult task. The CG production process used Autodesk Maya for modeling; VICON + Faceware + IGS + MotionBuilder were integrated and rendered in Unreal Engine; grading was done in DaVinci Resolve + MISTIKA; and compositing was done in Nuke. However, unlike ordinary CG production work, we repeatedly made small adjustments while tracing the family's memories and checked them over and over, gradually bringing Yasuko closer to life.
