A collaborative video work by butoh dancer Kana Kitty and filmmaker Takeshi Taniguchi
Kana Kitty
Butoh dancer / actress / Shinsō C-ku
Graduated from the Department of Art, Aoyama Gakuin Women’s Junior College. While enrolled, she encountered butoh because the figure drawing model in a nude drawing class was a dark butoh dancer.
She places her body between this world and the other side, dancing to naturally arising rhythms such as breathing and heartbeat. With no teacher, she began dancing on her own and continues to explore her own movements.
She actively collaborates with visual artists and musicians, and has participated in art festivals in Japan and abroad. In recent years, she has traveled to France, Switzerland, Iceland, Bangladesh, Nepal, Vietnam, and South Korea.
She is also exploring the possibilities of “Butoh Painting,” an original performance by Kana Kitty that combines paint and bodily expression. She continues the space-experimental performance project “k.a.n.a’s wonder world,” in which guest artists confront the space created through Butoh Painting.
Her music video “Kōfuku Sensō” featuring Atsuhiko Nakata of Oriental Radio drew media attention. She is also active as an actress in TV, film, and other works. In 2019, she appeared in the film Ossan’s Love: Love or Dead.
