A man immersed in delight. Having seen not only his own “outside” but also his “inside,” he was freed from anxiety and fear toward an unfathomable beauty, and was immersed in delight. The beauty he saw then was something grand and endlessly expansive, like the universe; he was like a cherry tree towering in the “outside,” nourished by the various things within, through the veins spread throughout his whole body. In contrast to the outside world that can only be seen through the eyes captured by a lens, CG (the beautiful thing he saw) is expressed as another world within the body, yet different from reality; this video uses pixelated animation made from live action and 3DCG.

A music video for ZUTOMAYO’s song “Kuraku Kuroku.” A maid-type android left behind on a civilization-crashed Earth finds a horned baby in the ruins and begins raising it. Based on the music and lyrics by vocalist ACAね, the team built the world and story, and challenged themselves to use the design and animation techniques best suited to the expression. Although it was an independent production without a studio, they pursued a level of quality that surpasses studio-made works through ingenuity and completed the project entirely remotely. Commentary: Before COVID, even a few years earlier, around the time when people had become nervously hypersensitive in times of emergency, there was already a sense of suffocation, as if only things that were useful or meaningful were being demanded, and it felt as though that atmosphere had been cultivated after COVID began. As we were forced to relearn that no one had knowledge of this unknown virus, and that people held different ideas and opinions about how to deal with it, I imagined a sense of futility and of coexisting with various forms of life, drawn from the parallel between having no choice but to barricade ourselves in and the fact that everything is always passing. The track “The FOG” itself is by John Carpenter, but I think it also referenced films such as Fitzcarraldo, Straw Dogs, and The Wages of Fear.
