To Future Scientists #14: Superhydrophobicity, Once Again

The “To Future Scientists” series is published on “The Power of Materials,” the public relations website of Japan’s national research institute, the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), to promote NIMS. Primarily aimed at high school and university students, the series uses simple and clear visuals to convey the intriguing properties of the various substances and materials studied at NIMS, as well as the appeal of “imagining” things based on scientific knowledge. In #14, the series returns to the “superhydrophobic material” featured in #09 and highlights, through two experiments, the possibilities of superhydrophobic materials that go beyond simply repelling water.
