With the theme “All life is connected by light,” this fantastical night show follows dolphins and humans as they search for the “flower of light.” Traveling through worlds symbolized by seven colors of light—such as the deep sea, the world of fire, the future, and the forest—they recover the lost light. Fountains, projection mapping, music, and performance come together, leading to a moving finale where the audience’s applause makes the “miracle flower” bloom. Commentary: In representing Mr. Nagase, who exists across the dimensions of media, what I had in mind was to show the moment of crossing between dimensions. The passage back and forth between dimensions gradually accelerates, until eventually it crosses dimensions frame by frame. So rapid that the temporal arrangement can be mistaken for spatial contact, and with a movement of flicker that is too fast to stop and yet seems to stand still, the translucent body placed within it can touch you on the retina, between frame and frame. The haze that only becomes visible through motion was also fitting for a melody that feels as if carved out of a raging current—or perhaps written automatically—gentle / eerie / light. In September 2024, we directed and produced the opening and closing segments of Autobacs’ 50th anniversary ceremony held at Grand Cube Osaka. EL SQUAD appeared in the performance, which featured visuals projected on a transparent screen and was synchronized with lighting and laser effects.

I was responsible for the overall direction of the special exhibition “I LOVE MAX MARA” for the Italian fashion brand Max Mara. The I LOVE MAX MARA exhibition was held from October 26 to November 10, 2018, at Hankyu Umeda Hall in Osaka. The aim was to blend extensive archival materials telling the story of the brand’s history and meticulous craftsmanship with digital content. As the highlight of the event, we created a 5-meter-tall “teddy bear coat” using 3D scanning. When visitors selected a coat color, an animation inspired by that color was projected in 360° onto the giant coat via projection mapping. We also planned and developed a variety of other experiences, including a fashion show utilizing that installation and a digital installation in another area where visitors could create their own maxmaragram using their name.
