pomemoon is a duo built around the concept of “music and art that accompany everyday life.” For the two members of pomemoon, there is a form of bread they want to become. There is an ideal form of bread they envision. Kneading the dough, letting it rest, and baking it to perfection. The way they approach their music is just like artisans making bread. Their dream has now given rise to a new story here. We are pleased to present the music video for “I Want to Become Bread,” a richly colored work imbued with expression, and an animation piece as free and soft as bread itself.

This was created as the ending video for the creator livestream event “Creators’ Year-End Party.” I made it while thinking about how much quality I could achieve in just one day of production time, using a retro pixel-art style.

A music video for the music unit Shinsou C-ku, created by the video production team Sharaku Town (写楽街). The song serves as the theme song for Sharaku Town’s documentary work Ghosts × Cults × Outlaws. The entire MV was shot on an iPhone.

I directed animation for the first time after having only ever made independent animations before. In independent production, data management is much looser, there’s no need to separate in-between drawings from key drawings, and there’s no need to give instructions to anyone, but commercial animation doesn’t work that way, so it was tough. There were at least three major accidents, and I ended up drawing a huge amount of layout, key animation, in-between animation, and backgrounds. In the end, I got heavily involved in every stage except the photography, and for the month leading up to the deadline—34 days—I worked every day for 13 hours while talking on the phone with the art director, making it feel like the three of us, including the photography director, were producing an independent animation. Because my memories of my first time as director were like this, it has become a trauma.
