Following “Re:GAME” and “Catwalk,” this work portrays “release” as the final chapter of Tanaka’s three-part music video trilogy. While carrying on the fictional world built in the previous works, it incorporates the relationship between Takeshi Taniguchi and Tanaka himself, as well as the creative process, adding a documentary-like perspective. Though it is a music video, it also serves as a meta work that looks back on the trilogy itself, depicting the conflict and sense of release embodied in the song, somewhere between reality and fiction.

Description: This stop-motion animation is set in Moriyama Ward, located on the outskirts of Nagoya, the production base of the artist Foodman a.k.a. foodmatsuri and the filmmaker. It expresses Foodman’s worldview, in which his own body is the very source of his music, and a unique sense of groove is created by adding a subtle sense of unease to the ordinary scenery of the town. The stop-motion footage was shot on an iPhone 6 while walking around or on the way to my regular spot, Ryusenji no Yu.

Like coffee brewed with a paper drip, this music video playfully captures the song’s stylish world, while retaining a hint of bitterness. The Manhattan SoHo-inspired setting in New York was entirely created in Unreal Engine 5. The English parts of the lyrics appear on street signs and displays throughout the city, and the protagonist’s walking pace is perfectly synchronized with the rhythm of the song, pursuing an expression that feels pleasant even just to watch. In addition, the video is filled with foreshadowing related to UFOs and the weather, with careful attention paid to every detail so that the more you watch it, the more new discoveries you can make.
