Hatsune Miku’s 16th anniversary song. As this would be a once-in-a-lifetime anniversary song marking her turning 16, we aimed for storyboards and direction that would convey the beauty of the passing years. We finished the story of Hatsune Miku, appearing as an elderly grandmother, adventuring through a sci-fi world, with a rough-touch look and a texture reminiscent of printmaking.

Created with the theme of psytrance + zombies + romance, aiming for a nightmare-like cuteness. This work explores graphic expression across the entire piece, from character design and CG to lyric design.

In contrast to the song’s theme of “struggles with and challenges to change,” the lyrics and logo incorporate a symmetrical ambigram gimmick to convey the message that even opposites are the same self. To encourage listeners to piece together the story, motion and typefaces from previous works are interwoven throughout.

This expresses a mix of feelings entangled with lingering attachment and anger over a broken heart, and a faint hope of getting back together.
