Based on the globally beloved Pokémon Card Game, a projection mapping display of light and imagery unfolds across the walls of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. The Pokémon depicted on the cards, along with iconic visuals, are brought to life in three-dimensional form through light and video, spreading a fantastical scene across the building at night. Shinjuku East Exit Cat “Thank You for the 4th Anniversary Edition” A 15-second special video commemorating the fourth anniversary of “Shinjuku East Exit Cat,” which has become a landmark in Shinjuku. This work builds a “retrospective” world that looks back on the series’ journey since the first installment in 2021. Its biggest highlight is the “nested” structure, in which past works are played on monitors placed within the 3D space. It creates a multilayered visual experience spanning the real-world display, the cat’s room, and the monitors within the video. Around the cat, meanwhile, cat bells, folk crafts, and unidentified objects that had been repeatedly dropped in the “Barely Edition” spin lively in circles. By scattering motifs symbolizing episodes from across the series like a collage, the piece expresses gratitude to fans while humorously reassembling four years of context into a festive work full of celebratory energy.

The Cat of Shinjuku East Exit: a piece synchronized across Cross Vision and Alta Vision

New work from 2024 by the Shinjuku East Exit Cat. Cat language amplified by echo reverberates across the plaza in front of Alta.

“3D Giant Cat” appeared on the large curved screen at the east exit of Shinjuku Station. Designed as a landmark character, the giant cat was made to look as if it lived in the building, and this fictional urban creature, unique to Japan for its distinctive sense of humor, was also covered by overseas media. This work brought a major evolution to DOOH (digital out-of-home advertising) expression.
