“Rakugaki AR” is an app that brings to life the dream everyone has imagined: “What if the things I draw came to life...?” Whether it’s a doodle drawn in a notebook or on a whiteboard, when you scan it with this app, it comes to life and starts walking around in a virtual space through your smartphone. Feed it, poke it, and play around with your doodles brought to life.
The iOS version was released early on Saturday, August 1, 2020, and reached 460,000 downloads within five days of launch. Thanks to being introduced by well-known manga artists and illustrators, it trended on Twitter, reaching No. 6, and it also took No. 1 on the paid app overall rankings in eight countries and regions around the world (Japan, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia) for iPhone. It has also been featured by more than 50 web media outlets in Japan and abroad, as well as on multiple TV programs.
It is also being exhibited for a limited time at the Kadokawa Musashino Museum.
