Profile: Art collective. teamLab began its activities in 2001. It is an international interdisciplinary collective exploring the intersections of art, science, technology, and the natural world through collective creation. It is composed of specialists from diverse fields, including artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians, and architects.

Through art, teamLab seeks to explore new relationships between the self and the world, and new modes of perception. In order to perceive, people tend to segment the world and understand it as separate entities with boundaries. teamLab seeks to transcend those boundaries of perception, the boundaries between the self and the world, and the boundaries of our perception of continuity in time. Everything exists precariously and miraculously upon the boundless continuity of a long, long span of time.

teamLab has held permanent exhibitions and art exhibitions around the world, including New York, London, Paris, Singapore, Silicon Valley, Beijing, Taipei, and Melbourne. In Tokyo’s Odaiba district, teamLab Borderless, the “museum without a map,” was opened. teamLab Planets, the “museum where you walk through water,” is on view in Toyosu, Tokyo through autumn 2020. In November 2019, the new museum teamLab Borderless Shanghai opened on the Huangpu riverside in Shanghai. teamLab SuperNature Macao is scheduled to open in Macau.

teamLab works are in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales (Sydney), the Art Gallery of South Australia (Adelaide), the Asian Art Museum (San Francisco), Asia Society (New York), the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection (Istanbul), the National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne), and Amos Rex (Helsinki).

teamLab is represented by Pace Gallery, Martin Browne Contemporary and Ikkan Art International.
