At the University of Melbourne, we have a distinctive curriculum that enables students to gain a broader understanding of the world beyond their degrees. To make this possible, we created a beautiful film that abstracts a future full of possibilities. Rather than producing a manifesto film like most other universities do, we created art.

We planned and produced a special movie to coincide with the launch of shu uemura’s Christmas limited-edition collection featuring artist Takashi Murakami’s “Flower” artwork. The concept was “Tokyo Wrapping.” The story follows a female protagonist and a spherical drone character as they fly all around the sleeping streets of Tokyo, wrapping the city in ribbons adorned with Murakami’s art. Murakami himself also made a cameo appearance. The film was created using a technique based on light painting, in which light is moved while the camera shutter speed is slowed to draw trails, and shot with a piece of equipment called a pixel stick. Through the dancers’ elegant yet dynamic movements as they manipulated the stick, the film depicts ribbons being wrapped around the city of Tokyo. The director was Genki Ito, one of the most acclaimed visualists in the creative scene. This brand movie was born from a chemical reaction between Ito’s aesthetic sensibility and JKD Collective, inspired by Takashi Murakami’s art.

A 2 minute and 30 second promotional movie that distills the world of the fashion brand “Schiaparelli.” Graceful butterfly-like flying forms drift through the air, while metallic floating objects shimmer and sway. It draws viewers into the brand’s concept.

This is an animated piece commemorating the 60th anniversary of Maruman’s long-selling “Zuan” notebook. It visualizes the way our thoughts unconsciously keep expanding and leaping ahead while we are sketching ideas on paper. The animation was developed using the two cover colors of the Zuan notebook.

Description: Suppose there is a 4K-resolution display in front of you. Its resolution is 3,840 pixels × 2,160 pixels, meaning there are a total of 8,294,400 pixels before your eyes. If you were to keep filling in one pixel per minute, starting from the edge and proceeding without pause, it would take more than 15 years to paint them all. And that screen is being refreshed 60 times every second. It is an overwhelming amount of information, so vast it is almost impossible to imagine.
