When I first listened closely to Kohei Matsushita’s “Sayonara no Mukō ni,” the face of a friend living far from his hometown came to mind. And I thought of the many “goodbyes” he had experienced. Before the one-and-only final “goodbye,” I experience countless goodbyes of my own. Among them are goodbyes that come only once, and goodbyes for which tomorrow is promised. This work was animated entirely on paper. I want to walk through the world that spreads out beyond “Sayonara no Mukō ni,” together with the rain of tears. Riding on the bamboo boat we made with them.
