The Briefing In many industries, vast amounts of existing data are being retained, and new data is being generated all the time, yet companies have not been able to effectively use those insights or apply them to their businesses. With that in mind, we conveyed NEC’s focus on “Big Data” from an IT platform perspective. The video was shown at trade shows and private events to raise awareness. The Solution “PLAYFUL TECHNOLOGY” How can we compellingly present a cutting-edge big data solution? One approach would be to introduce it through a futuristic video full of energy and speed, but first and foremost, we felt it was important to make viewers think data is interesting. Big data, in particular, will have a major impact on people’s lives going forward. Rather than a futuristic feel that creates a sense of distance, a friendly quality that invites people in is essential. Art Direction Connecting dots with lines. From those shapes, imagining and drawing the future. Turning infographics into a story. Long ago, people looked up at the night sky, connected the stars, imagined their shapes, created constellations, and made myths and stories. Eventually, astronomical observation developed into astronomy, and people came to realize it was an important measure for determining calendars, directions, and weather. Big Data, like the stars, is abstract and does not have a definite form. Through NEC’s “Big Data Solution,” we expressed how connecting countless points of data with lines can become a measure for drawing out business and the future. We aimed to depict it with line-art illustrations, giving it both a technology-like and nostalgic feel. To make it engaging for viewers, we brought it together with slightly mysterious BGM and comic animation.
