To help children aged 6 and up discover the possibilities of next-generation television, we produced the interactive educational program “Kao TV” in collaboration with NHK.
“Kao TV” uses a technology called hybrid cast, allowing viewers to display the “faces” they create on television and make them sing. By installing a dedicated app on a smartphone and selecting their favorite “face parts” (such as eyes, nose, and mouth), the “face” they create jumps into the TV and starts moving. In the toilet episode, the face they drew becomes the toilet’s face, singing about everyday life in the toilet; in the green pepper episode, it sings about the life of a green pepper. The story was designed so that children could hear the true feelings of everyday objects around them.
This program drew attention as the world’s first interactive, viewer-participation educational program, and it was also nominated for an International Emmy Award.
