In collaboration with Hong Kong’s design event “deTour 2020,” we planned and produced “FLOCK,” an art installation that blends the real world with the virtual world.
The impact of COVID-19 has transformed our lives, making it difficult once again for people to connect and meet in person as they used to.
In response, Whatever set out to create an experience in the form of an artwork that celebrates the joy of people sharing the same space again, and produced a digital art installation that allows anyone to fly beneath the same sky as people around the world simply by taking a photo of themselves.
At PMQ, the venue for deTour 2020, a photo booth was set up in the courtyard, where visitors could create their own avatar by taking a full-body photo. The avatars created then flap their arms and fly out onto a giant digital screen, soaring through a virtual space together with other visitors.
In addition, by uploading a full-body photo from the official deTour 2020 website, anyone could join the same virtual world as the visitors on site.
