Rhizomatiks VR border 2015 Only Image A dance performance created through a collaboration between the dance company ELEVENPLAY, led by choreographer/director MIKIKO, and Rhizomatiks Research. Participants wear an AR/VR head-mounted display with stereo cameras and headphones, then board a remotely operated personal mobility device to experience the performance. In the head-mounted display, reality, AR, and VR switch rapidly and seamlessly, allowing participants to experience a "border = boundary" between reality and fiction, combined with the actual movements of the dancers and devices moving on stage.

Focusing on the organic, fluid aspects of the story—such as souls passing through the dragon and the life and death of its people—the sequence unfolds as a complex visual experience with ever-changing expressions. By combining contemporary graphics with an emaki-inspired approach, the world of the work is rendered in an abstract form. These elements are paired with edgy motion typography to create the opening sequence.
