The world premiere of the stage art work THE TRIP -Enter The Black Hole-, led by Jeff Mills, was performed in Tokyo on April 1, 2024. This is the world premiere of THE TRIP -Enter The Black Hole-, a stage art work co-produced by Jeff Mills, the world-renowned DJ and pioneer of Detroit techno, and COSMIC LAB, one of Japan’s most innovative visual teams. With black holes as its theme, Jeff Mills handled the overall direction, script, and music, while COSMIC LAB expanded his vision of the cosmos and way of thinking through visual direction. In addition, Juju Togawa, who like Jeff Mills has been active since the early 1980s, joined as a singer, and choreographer Hiroaki Umeda, internationally acclaimed for his cross-disciplinary work spanning contemporary dance and digital art, was also part of the production. The stage costumes for each performer were designed by Hiroshi Ochiai of FACETASM, one of Japan’s leading fashion brands. This live expanded cinema work, a journey to the farthest reaches of the universe and an exploration of the deepest depths of the mind, was performed at ZEROTOKYO, equipped with a visual system developed by COSMIC LAB and state-of-the-art sound facilities.

Using the latest visual technology that fuses 3D projection mapping and lasers, this is a performance of shomyo, imagery, and light linking the monk, the pagoda, Kobo Daishi, and Dainichi Nyorai. Celebrating the 1,200th anniversary of the founding of Koyasan, a World Heritage site, it is a prayer of gratitude and thanksgiving dedicated to Odaishi-sama, themed on “Namu Daishi Henjo Kongo.” http://www.koyasan1200-hikari.jp/

Participated as an XRVJ in the performance by Hakushi Hasegawa, the young musician drawing global attention, on “THE HIT,” the music program hosted by Flying Lotus. By integrating LiDAR and ARKit into COSMIC LAB’s XR live system, an audio-reactive VFX performance was improvised as live VJing, transforming the musician’s physical presence.

A showcase using “QUASAR,” a musical instrument developed by COSMIC LAB that plays sound and visuals simultaneously. A live session with Plant Records, led by DJ YASA, formerly of KIREEK, who achieved the remarkable feat of winning the DMC World Championship five years in a row. YoshimiO (OOIOO) and TOKIO AOYAMA also took part in this work.

EYE (BOREDOMS)'s new project "FINALBY( )" with COSMIC LAB & Niimi Taiki & Kanta Horio COSMIC LAB, which explores the expansion of perception through spatial expressions where the visible and invisible intersect; Kanta Horio of the art-engineering group Ponoor Experiments, who explores the relationship between sound and machines based on physical phenomena through art and system development; programmer Taiki Niimi, who handles everything from circuit design to sound synthesis; and Shinji Mashiko, who has worked with BOREDOMS for many years as sub-director—through this collaboration, they create a new audiovisual experience centered on device objects. It made its debut on the WHITESTAGE at FUJIROCK FESTIVAL’21.
