See the Trees, See the Forest,
2019
00:01:01
“Do not see the forest for the trees.” In this proverb, “trees” refers to a narrow perspective or the details of things, while “forest” refers to a broad perspective, the whole picture. Inspired by this proverb, we sought to give form to the process of actively shifting between perspectives and to the way this can create a more three-dimensional image.
See the trees, see the forest, then see the trees again...
This body of work is an installation that allows viewers to experience the moment when a one-sided image changes by moving back and forth between the fine-grained and the broad information symbolized by the “trees” and the “forest.” Each piece is equipped with an interface such as a knob, and by operating it, viewers can transform or rotate the motifs on the screen, navigating between the perspectives of trees and forest within each work.
