Curiosity Blocks

“Curiosity Blocks” is an animated work that uses the technique of anamorphosis, in which a distorted image is drawn in advance so that it appears correctly when reflected in a cylindrical mirror.
The artist envisioned curiosity connecting and overlapping, generating new knowledge and discoveries, and used a method of combining multiple animation elements.
The artist, who is also a printmaker, superimposed the relationship between plate and print onto the relationship between the image on the display and the image in the mirror, and incorporated into the animation the layered structure of multi-color prints, in which each color has its own distinct layer and overlaps to form a layered composition.
The title “Blocks” carries meanings such as “a mass,” “divisions separated by a grid,” “a series of instructions in a program,” and “a woodblock printing plate.”
