Commentary: The Tokyo International Projection Mapping Awards is one of Japan’s largest projection mapping competitions, held since 2016 with the aim of discovering a new generation of spatial visual creators. Each year around April, entries are invited from universities and vocational schools nationwide. A first-round screening is conducted based on submitted documents such as project proposals, and teams are selected to compete in the final judging and screening event. Teams that advance to the final judging and screening event receive professional guidance through workshops organized by the executive committee and spend about four months creating their projection mapping works. The judging is conducted with MCs and panelists who are talents and creators active across a wide range of media.
