Commentary: My first meeting with Kanta was in the spring of our first year of college, at a club meet-and-greet. The duo known as Mizutamari Bond was formed about eight months later, on January 1. Our first stage performance was at Shinjuku Fu Live on January 8. The following January 1, we began posting videos every day on YouTube. Two years after that, we decided to make our way into society as Mizutamari Bond. (Tominaga repeated a year.) Was it fate that two people who are opposites in every way would continue doing this together? I think it was a miracle. If we had met even one day earlier, if we had formed our duo even one day later, if we hadn’t performed that bit at our first stage show, maybe we wouldn’t be together now. I’m not saying things like, “We’re a miraculous duo!” But even if a time machine were invented and I could go back to the past, I wouldn’t go. And even if I did, I’d definitely come back having done nothing. “If Mizutamari Bond Had Met in High School” is a work created from those feelings.
