“Chibi Godzilla Raids Again” is a TV animation series with 13 episodes, each 2 minutes and 40 seconds long, that aired every Saturday at 7:00 a.m. on TV Tokyo’s “Inimini Mani Mo” block. Promoted as “the latest entry in the Godzilla series!”, it presented a lively character-driven dialogue comedy that was a sharp departure from the traditional Godzilla films. Its star-studded cast, including Jun Fukuyama, Yuki Kaji, Takuya Eguchi, Rie Takahashi, Hiro Shimono, Fumihiko Tachiki, and Miyuki Sawashiro, also drew attention. In addition to the TV anime, the series was also shown in theaters nationwide, including countdown movies and manners videos at TOHO Cinemas.

“Pictographs,” which are characters drawn by depicting the shapes of objects, make up only 12.6% of the commonly used kanji in Japan, surprisingly. As someone who loves pictographs, that felt a little disappointing, so I tried making my own original pseudo-pictographs. Some of them seem to roughly match their meanings, while others are completely unrelated, yet they still suggest some kind of story. This reflects the limitless possibilities of “characters.” It is also an attempt at my own kind of “mitate” — seeing one thing as something else. I compiled several pieces I had posted on social media into one video. I titled it “like,” which can mean both “something like ○○” and “to like.” I hope you enjoy watching it.
